What's new

Just got a Honda Lawnmower, man she's a beauty.

My 20 year old Victa was on the blink, she was good to me over the years, put her through hell but this Honda is in another league.

Quietly just putts along till she finds a heavy patch then revs up a little then once back to ezy street drops the revs, good stuff. Easy to clean, just put the hose in a plug with the engine running. Not too heavy and doesn't leave a single hair/blade of grass behind (must be using Feathers for blades) which means no cleaning up after her. Very well built and looks great.

I'm in love, lawnmowing is a pleasure. Also got a Honda Atom edger which powers along for it's size and nothing gets in it's way, it takes me for a ride like walking a rottweiler, chucks grass and dirt between my legs like a hole diggin Jack russell on steroids.

Any one else like the Honda outdoor power equipment?

INMH, you couldn't have made a better choice.

I've been running the same Honda Harmony mower since 1991 or so. It's still going strong, with no problems. I get it tuned up every other year, and it's about time to replace the wheels - otherwise, trouble free.

Now you've got me interested in trying out the edger!

thanks,

my neighbour popped head lemon spread over the fence and said man that's a nice mower and quiet too. he asked how much and i said 700aus and he said good buy. he said he just bought one for 300 and has had trouble ever since and said he shoulda forked out a bit more for something better. i was so happy with my Honda i was gonna offer to mow his lawn for free and then his neighbour and so on and so on,,but then i snapped out of it.

the edger's great cuts thick grass 6 inches deep no probs.

Yeah, just wait till late spring, when the neighbors start asking to borrow yours because it does such a great job!!! :biggrin1:

I think I have that exact same one as well. I will never buy anything other than a Honda - if the current one ever dies that is...which i doubt....its in a league of its own...

make ya feel like king of the hill, lol

Congratulations! I never regret spending on a good tool, the reverse I cannot say. The times I have tried to save a buck will haunt you for as long as you own a lesser quality tool.

Enjoy!

I am sure you will be very happy with that. My parent bought a Honda riding mower years and years ago. They had for about 10 years then I bought off of them and used foe about 6 years and I gave it to my brother down the street about 4 years ago. So we have had about 20 years and it still runs like a top. My husband had a Sears rider when we got married that was only 2 years old and could not even compete with the finished look of the Honda.

debating about saving up for a Honda snowblower as just about all other manufacturers have sold their soul to the big box demons. Honda definitely has the quality thing going for it.
just not sure if I want to drop $2+k on something that'll last me 20-30 years or $500-1000 on something that I'll get 5-10years out of. There are some advantages to getting new cheaper blowers every few years, but there is also the satisfaction in getting good quality stuff and keeping it forever.

this is my current beast, that my father in law bought used in the 70s. We think it was made in the late 50s early 60s.

LOMBARD
Here is a Lombard. When these guys built a 3-stage machine they didn't mess around, 2 complete screw style augers. This thing is built like a warship. Look at the iron extending along the bottom to support the collector housing, it's a whole undercarriage! That chute looks curious as well, it reminds me of the Snowbird barrel roll setup.

Ariens Snow Blowers are very well made. http://www.ariens.com/Pages/default.aspx

Yes as are Toros and Snappers, especially if they're built at a dealer and not Sears or a Big Box Store. However compared to the Honda Blowers they look kinda like cheap, one major thing that I see is that all the blower companies with the exception of Honda now outsource their motors to Briggs/Stratton. Not that B/S is that bad of a motor, it's just kinda nice to have some choice. And B/S just don't seem to last as long as they once did. At one time Honda, Toro, J/D, Simplicity, Snapper, all made their own motors, which IMO tended to last a lot longer. It's alot easier to replace and fix the B/S now that everyone is using them, but it's lost something. Now mind you, mine has a Tecumseh motor so I guess I'm a bit of a hypocrite but it just seems better for some reason. The days of machines lasting as long as mine have are numbered, as any small engine thing seems to be.

I like that Edger btw, didn't even know that Honda made those kind of things.

For small engine items like that I'd choose Stihl, especially for Chain saws, leaf blowers and weed whackers. I've heard good things about Echo but my Father in laws Echo weed whacker is a *** and even to get it serviced costs just about as much as a new one. So it seems hardly worth it.

Thanks,

Nothing worse than when your about to start a job and your tools lets you down or take twice as long to do it.

Compared to me old mower this one cuts the grass fine so it doesn't fill the catcher as quick and cuts down the overall time it takes. Good on fuel too

I've always tried to buy a better product even if it costs more so I can save money in the long term, do the job better/quicker and enjoy it without frustration.

Don't think Honda make em, she's got a Honda engine. I think Atom make em.

Great little thing, never like using a whipper snipper for the edges, this thing just powers through.

Thanks Sue,

I looked at some mowers and none of em compared to the quality of the Honda. Good to see yours is still going strong after all those years.

Man she is a beast, wouldn't wanna fall in front of her after about 55 scotch's, you'd have instant bolognese sauce in a second.

+1

My one and only experience with an Echo ended up in the trash after I was quoted $145 for repairs on a leaf blower that cost $109 !

+1, more often than not you get what you pay for or you pay for trying to cut corners.

Looks like you made a good choice, Kenno.

BTW, there was a call for you on a boxing opinion in the MMA thread.

especially as the "clutch" is the reverse of modern machines you have to engage it to stop it! Once she starts moving nothing stops her! Gotta be real careful in reverse, been a few times when she's nearly pinned me against the garage door or the side of a car!

Good point, I guess my real point is that I didn't know that Honda made motors in that size range.
