What's new

Just getting started

Im a recent convert to SR's and so far Im impressed with the results. I love how close the shave is. I cant stop touching my face, its so smooth. Right now Im using a Parker Shavette style razor with shark blades. Im wondering if there are better blades available. Most of the research I did pointed to sharks being much preferred but I wonder if I missed something. I really need to experiment with new preshave, soaps, and aftershave skin care products. I think most of my irritation would be eliminated if I had the right stuff. For now Im using the soap from Walmart- comes in a green box. I have been using some Vaseline cooling body lotion as preshave treatment and Aftershave. It has a nice cooling sensation and sooths my skin. I still have some irritation but its not bad. My biggest issue is my neck. My hair grows at odd angles and is real hard to get smooth without digging too hard or nicking myself. Its just going to take time is all. If anyone has any tips on good skin care options or troublesome neck hairs feel free to reply or shoot me a message.

had to post something after a setting change so I can get updates via email on new posts.

Lubrication is the key; forget about tons of lather. Neutrogena Deep Cleaning works real good. I also use Noxzema skin cream (not canned) on top of a good covering of Kirk's Castille Soap. Many people love Arko, too.

The soap in the green box at Wal-Mart is Van Der Hagen Deluxe. It's a good quality soap, and bargain priced to boot.

It takes quite a bit of time to get consistent results with a Straight Razor, more so with a Shavette using a snapped in half DE blade, as they are less forgiving. I wouldn't go changing to many variables until your technique is rock solid.
