Well, I've been using a DE for about a year or two I would guess.
I try not to get into shaving conversations with people because I bore the hell out of them. But a while back I was talking to my brother and he is like me in that he likes traditional things and likes using nice tools, so I bought him his very own Merkur HD and he now uses it and keeps me updated with his shaving. Nothing like a bit of brotherly bonding
Anyway, I stayed at a friends house the other day and after a shower I shaved with my travel shaving setup. That day it was:
Truefitt & Hill superbadger brush
Merkur HD loaded with a Derby Extra
Proraso cream in a tube
Witch Hazel
L'occitane After Shave Balm
Trumper's Spanish Leather Cologne
So when I went downstairs my hosts were cooking some egg butties for breakfast They seemed surprised that I had shaved on a Saturday morning. I explained that my weekend shaves were my most favourite.
The inevitable happened and we spoke shaving. So this weekend my mate and I are going shopping for a brush and some cream for him to get started.
Initially we will get him a cheap brush and a tube of Palmolive. I've not used Palmolive but I hear some good things about it. It doesn't break the bank either if he decides it is not for him.
I decided that the best start for him would be to initially stick to his multiblade cartridge but start to prep' properly and to ditch his canned goo in favour of a brush and some cream. Get him opening pores by showering before a shave and get him closing pores afterwards with a cold water rinse and some witch hazel and I'm sure he will see some improvements. My thinking is "one step at a time".
Then when he has the techniques licked I can introduce him to the wonders of a DE and he can run from there.
He has a world of fun in front of him! Hopefully I will have a second one converted to our ways!
