but Irun is on the other side of spain from the Bernidorm and the rock of gibraltar, if indeed the image is of an Irun vista
1934 Juan Vollmer bought a razor blade factory in Irún and was authorized to use the PALMERA trade mark in Spain (the PALMERA trademark was first registered in 1864 in Solingen, Germany). PALMERA's evolution since then has been substantial; it met very specific objectives in those years and became a symbol of quality that would later support other products manufactured by the company.
1970 PALMERA took to the roads with its fleet of trucks, offering a comprehensive showing of the product range and a practical demonstration of their technical features. In 1978, JUAN VOLLMER S.A. became PALMERA INDUSTRIAL S.A.
1995 The historic PALMERA plant on Nueva Travesía in Irún was abandoned, and a new plant was built at Hilanderas 1.
so i lost focus last June on this and somehow recently stumbled upon some historical info. i truly couldn't believe that i was the first, and obviously i wasn't. many other forums have the info (german, russian, spanish, english ) I guess you need to know the right words or names to get the appropriate info...
but i did stumble upon this pdf that is never mentioned anywhere else or linked to.
check out this interesting German Bladesmiths doc online - it corroborates the trademark of PALMERA by "Ferdinand Herberz & Cie" (Ferd. Herberz)
others by Herberz listed include
Names:
BARCELONA, EFAX, EFFAX, EL PLUMERO, EROS, HERBERZ, HARPUNE, NO8DO, SECURAPID, SEKURAPID,TET, CROCODILE,
Marks:
palm and pyramid, Crocodile, Chameleon, arrow, hammer and triangle, Harpoon & stars, Plume & EL PLUMERO
Ferd. HERBERZ cutlery company founded in 1864 - The company was in business still in 1938-1939, but absent for more recent Solingen biz directories
so that links the Palmera name to 1864 in Solingen with Herberz, in 1934, Juan Vollmer buys the Irun facrory and buys the Palmera name and logo. (also seen in a 100 year history "clip" @ SNA Europe where JV & Palmera is mentioned twice http://www.snaeurope.com/about-us/our-history
it also looks like the Palmera trademark expired? in 1995 coincident with the acquisition by U.S. Snap-on of Palmera's parent company and at that same time the historic PALMERA plant on Nueva Travesía in Irún was abandoned.
it appears that Hugo Herkenrath Solingen may be the "14" blanks forger, too.. i couldn't find that info..
so it appears that the logo is a Palm & Pyramid (maybe stylized), as straight pyramid edges can be seen in some other logos on Herberz stuff and palmeras ads
