What's new

jpo-tx113's Collection (or, another reason his wife calls him a hoarder)

I've been wet shaving for years, starting sometime around 1983. I did not get into DE shaving until November 2012 when I purchased a nice package from Italian Barber (right about the same time I started coming to this forum).

Here's what I've managed to put together so far (minus the brushes, which I have not photographed yet). I'll post some photos now and some more later, so check back later. I'll also keep adding more items as I get them, so consider this a journal of sorts.

Here we have my first DE, a RazoRock Classic Hammer. A very nice razor, and the only one I figured I would ever need. Then the vintage razor bug bit me.

Here are the regular Techs that I have so far. I've used them all except the 1964, which was NOS. I might eventually get around to using it.

1940s Tech- Paid $15 with shipping.

1964 Tech (J-2)-- Paid $25.00

1972 Tech (S-3) with aluminum handle. This came with a package of Gillette 7 O'Clocks, one package of Wilkinson's, and two packages of Crystals. One NOS razor and 30 blades for $15.00.

Here are my Travel Techs. I've never used them but for some reason enjoy collecting them.

1967 Travel Tech (M-3). I paid just under $9 for this.

1968 Travel Tech (N-2) I was just learning about date codes and did not know that this was a 1968; it was sold to me as a 1943 for $25. I believe I might have paid too much.

1970 Travel Tech (P-3). Closest thing I have to my birth quarter so far. Paid $15.00 with shipping.

Next up is my Super Speed/TTO collection.

This is either a 1948 or '49. Paid $7.50.

Here's another '40s style TTO. This is a 1950; also paid $7.50 for this one.

1953 TTO (Y-4). This was sold as a 1978 Gillette and came in mixed lot, including a Gillette blade case, a brush, two boxes of vintage Waltham blades, and a Durham Duplex shavette. Paid $30, but really only wanted the razor, blade case, and old blades.

All three together (with the blade case previously mentioned).

1970 Flair Tip TTO (P-1). I need a P-4 Tech for my actual birth quarter, but this will do. Paid $8.00

I've also started collecting Gem razors. I've used the 1912 a few times but just recently (as of yesterday) picked up the G-Bar (shown on top). I paid $7 for the G-Bar; the 1912 came as a lot, including a Williams soap tin (which was the reason I bid) and one NOS Gillette blade. I really didn't want the razor but have since enjoyed using SE razors.

Here's the entire collection of razors as of today. I'm sure it'll continue to grow soon.

I once decided that I needed something to store my razors on. I figured this vintage humidor would do the trick, since it would hold six on the sides and give me room on the inside for blades, etc. I went over my capacity of six soon after buying this.

Here are some other shave-related items that I've obtained.

Palmolive Cream jar; paid $10. Great for storing old blades that are still in the box/wrapper.

Some of my old blades.

On the right you see a William's shaving stick tin, which came with the original instructions. As mentioned, a Gem came with this lot and the purchase price was $15. On the left is a Colgate tin; paid $7.

When shaving, I prefer to use my Old Spice mugs. I'm trying to build a complete set and have three so far. On the far left is an Early Glass Mug 01, produced from 1948 to the early 1950s. The middle mug is an Early Mug 06, produced from 1961 to 1964. The last one is a Late Glass Mug 02, produced probably starting in 1978 (similar to the 03 mug, but this one was made in Belgium).

Mark, what I have are cheap user-grade razors. You, sir, must be the curator of some fabulous razor museum. Wow...that is just impressive!

Nice collection thus far. But you have a P1 Black Handle Flare Tip SS under the Tech collection. Really like the reuse on the pipe stand with humidor, stay away from the Brown Leaf or that thing will be filled with pipes and you'll be looking for an alternate razor stand

Thanks for calling my attention to that. For some reason several photos were not showing up, and I was editing and adding and trying to get things to work right. I must have switched that P-1 to another post.
