Greetings. New to this forum, although I have been buying knives and straight razors for a long time. Not particularly a collector of one thing, just buy things that please my eye. I recently purchased this gentleman’s travel case. Did not really look at names, as it looked like a high end quality set, probably minimally used or not used at all. And since there were multiple parties looking at the set, I took the risk and paid asking price and walked away with the set. Doing some research and judging from the signature on the box, it dates to 1850s. Razors have some stains but no rust or pitting. As u can see 4 razors in the set. Handles look to be ivory. It has personal engraving, which looks middle eastern to me, but can’t be certain. Anyway, kind of show and tell. If anyone has any information by looking at my poor pictures, please share the knowledge. Regards. Adi

I haven't got any info to contribute, but that's an incredible, once-in-a-lifetime find you have there. Basically the pinnacle of potential luxury in shaving goods. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little bit jealous, but really, congratulations on finding such a remarkable set of equipment.

Thank u. That’s how I felt when I saw it.

The craftsmanship on the box alone is stunning. Rosewood & Brass inlay? Is that brass inlay on the lid and tray as well? Note the clocking of all the screw heads. That lid is awesome. Should be a maker’s mark somewhere.

Yes, Ivory on the scales and likely all the other tool handles. Some good metal polish and 0000 steel wool should polish the blade nicely.

Condition appears excellent, especially for it’s likely age. Love that the collection has remained intact all these years.

Are the other knives Rodger’s as well?

Very amazing find, enjoy.

U absolutely correct about inlaid rosewood. No. I don’t have any other rodgers blades.

That's a lovely thing.

When you see that stamp on the tang that says cutlers to their majesties (plural) the majesties they are speaking of are Victoria and Albert. They were married in 1840, and he died in 1861, so your estimate of 1850 for the date of the box is probably zeroed pretty well.

The silver will be hallmarked as well.

A little bit better pictures of the rodgers razor. Some other razors I have, but again bought simply on aesthetic basis’ over the years.

Just realized, I misunderstood your question. U were asking about knives in the set. I just checked and yes. They are marked rodgers.
