joris or muhle sophist

Hi all. I have some extra xmas money to spend and was wondering what thoughts anybody had on these 2 razors. I know that the Joris is an open comb razor and i have yet to try one of those. Any pros and cons of these two would be appreciated. Thanks

thats the only thing that concerns me about the joris. the thickest part of my beard is in the goatee area.

I have been shaving with nothing but the Joris for the past 6 months and am extremely happy with it. So much so, I sold off all my other razors.

After a month of so of use, you become used to the aggressiveness and it shaves like any other razor. I get such a close shave with mine that I can often skip a day shaving, something I have never been able to do with another razor.

The Razor Maher has FS would be a good deal. The Merkur is not even in the same ballpark, is less aggressive, and lacks in the fit and finish department. I returned two of them to a vendor because of head alignment issues.

I believe that the Joris OC head is identical to the old R89c and both use the Italian made Fat-Tip head. The Joris has a much better finishing/plating compared to the R89c. Pull the trigger on the Joris.

Follow up on the joris. Put a sharps blade and proceeded to get awful razor burn my first two shaves. Boy was that painful! Gave my face a break then placed a derby blade in there and modified my technique (less pressure and change of angle) and viola------ a beautiful razor burn free shave and one of the closest shaves i have had so far. This is my favorite razor ( own a feather, futr, and on of the smaller ej's). It just needs a slight change in technique
BTW i have sensitive skin so if anybody is on the fence about this because of "aggressiveness " I would not shy away from it.

Little, if any pressure at all was the key for me .

If the head is identical to the Muhle, and Joris is a Euro brand then who makes these is the question I ask. I never chased these down too much so I am uninformed as I post here. I have seen these for sale mostly in Europe and not the states. Does anyone have any background info on the brand such as a home page or master company for them. Any history on how the brand started. In the end you may already own one of these if you get my point.

It has been posted that the razor head of the Joris is identical to the one made by Fatip, who was the maker of the old style Muhle R89 razor.
