Join Me in a Quest to the Finish?

Gents:

When I first started getting into wet shaving a couple years ago, I started off small. Then I found this place and in no time I wanted to try every new soap, cream, blade, razor...well you get the idea. Anyhow, in no time at all I had 20+ soaps and creams and storage space started getting tight.

I am on a quest to finish products. I don't want anything else (well I do, but...). More than anything, I want space in my bathroom and some simplicity in my life. I've run some rough calculations and with my current war chest of supplies, I wouldn't have to buy more soap/cream until 2018, no aftershave until the Spring of 2016, and no blades until mid-2014 (clearly my weakness).

Anyhow, I am committed to using up product. Up first are a couple that are just hanging on:
16oz Witchhazel -- Not much left. I commit to finishing the bottle by the end of the week.
Brut a/s balm -- Got in a trade. Works fine, but I don't love it. I pledge to finish by the end of March.
ToBS Sandalwood (cream) -- Not much left but it seems to last forever. Pledge to finish by the second week of April.

Anyone else have any product that they want to put on the firing line? We can think of this as a support group.

Cheers!

Awesome idea :D

Well, I have to finish my Proraso Red because I have gone back GFT Coconut cream, and I love it. I can't wait to use it everyday.

Other than that, I have promised SWMBO that I would not buy anymore cologne until I finish at least one bottle of the ones I currently have. I estimate it won't happen until 2020 with everyday use (8-9 bottles of 100mL (3.4 oz) in a daily rotation - not counting the days I wear no cologne). That is about one liter!

Many hair products I need to go through until I buy again also.

But damn, it's hard sticking to what you already have when you hear people on here raving about products you don't have! :p

Sharpen -- I've PIFd a lot of my products lately. Felt good to do a PIF and get rid of some products to boot.

Every time I throw a used container in the trash bin, it's a great feeling. :thumbup1:

Yes -- I feel his pain. I really just need less clutter AND have a desire to use up product. Having less is more.

The 16oz bottle of Dickinson Witch Hazel should be finished tonight. Very excited!

I know that my cabinet would look very spartan to everyone else here ( 1 soap, 2 creams, 3 razors, 1 mug, 1 bowl and 7 packs of blades) but I'm trying to show some constraint in buying too much product all at once...I'm going to SAVE money wet shaving right? LOL I'm just glad I'm not a scent guy or who knows how many more bottles of AS and cologne I'd have. Of course my AD doesn't apply to my new hobby of brush restoration ;-)

Update: Witch Hazel emptied.

I'm going to try to focus on products where I've made a nice dent already. Once something is 75% gone, it's time to use 'em up and put 'em out of their misery.

Jimbob -- everybody has their own motivations. I'm just trying to get rid of clutter before I buy more product. Up next on the chopping block for me is my ToBS Sandlawood cream and a Brut a/s balm. I have a Palmolive shave stick I'd like to finish too, though that's probably 80% remaining.

I'm a 3017er these days, but in addition to soap I'm working on finishing a bottle of C&E Sienna ASB that I've had for rather a long time. It's great stuff, but I'm ready to finish it up to use some other products for a while.

Galengwath and mftoms59 -- good luck with your quest. I hope you'll post updates when you finish.

I knocked out the Brut a/s balm this morning and it felt fantastic. Never really cared for the product all that much -- it performed just fine, but the scent wasn't for me.

I think I want to try to knock out a Palmolive shave stick next. I may rotate in some others, so I don't die of boredom.

Just saw a tiny bit of the bottom of my GFT Coconut Cream jar! I'm trying to load the brush a bit more than usual in order to get through it. Resulted in a better lather and ultimately a somewhat better and more cushiony shave!

corey - I'm torn on the whole issue. I too, like the idea of finishing off a product, enjoying the satisfaction of having committed to using every last drop or dallop. My hangup enters when I hear you forcing yourself to use products you're not enamored with. I am currently applying the theory of "life is too short to have anything less than a thoroughly awesome shaving experience." As such, I've migrated toward only using my favorite blades (why would I settle for a lower quality?) and best creams. I never want to feel sorry for a scent or soap in my den because really... the soap doesn't care if it gets used, so why should I? (thought I've heard tales of Cella giving people the stink eye) I am trying to focus, instead, on wholly enjoying a good english leather or top notch vetiver after whipping up a stellar lather with the best cream I've got.

Still I admire your dedication and moxy. May your Palmolive stick meet a swift but super-smelling demise.

Cheers

I've been participating in "Make March Croap Month" and started with ~35 grams of Panna Crema, with the exception of three shaves I've used it exclusively and it isn't close to dying. The Sandalwood should be history tomorrow, ~2 more weeks for the Panna Crema.

Add; RIP Yardley Sandalwood, 4/12- 3/13.

Vetyver EDT by Dana finished Tuesday morning. I'm hoping to finish off my Panna Crema by the 3rd week of this month, it's hanging on like a champ.

I finished my Panna Crema Africa yesterday, have you all given up or still working hard on completing something in your Den?

I'm still working on my tub of AoS sandalwood (not a huge fan) that I bought last year. I'll be at 7 creams and 1 soap in the current rotation. I have about 20-25 colognes I would also like to use up, though about 3-5 of them are 6.7 oz "forever bottles."

No need to rush through the Colognes, just keep them in a cool dark place & they'll last a very long time. I use a few Vintage Colognes and store them this way, just as nice as the day they were packaged.
Dehydrated Tub creams aren't a problem either, just load them like a soap and after a few uses they'll absorb some of the moisture from your brush. I used my AOS Rose like this, IMO the lather was much nicer with a drier cream, great shaves every time.
