Jaw Line/Tip of chin tricks

Hey guys! New to Straight shaving, just wondering if there are any hidden secrets to getting the jaw line, and the tip of the chin without nicks!?

Stretching the skin is what works for me. I get the target area pulled taut and use a light stroke.

Open my mouth and pull my bottom lip over my teeth and into my mouth as far as I can to get the skin of the chin pulled up onto the flat area above the point of my chin

Try this experiment:

Open your mouth as wide as you possibly can. Put your finger on your jawline there. Now close your mouth. Your finger should now be about an inch BELOW your jawline.

Do the same when shaving. Open your mouth very wide when shaving your cheeks, and then shave down to the jawline like that. When you close your mouth you will see that you won't have to shave the actual jawline itself.

I tried a variant on what you said, Seraphim, and it was most interesting. I placed my fingers on my jawline and then opened my mouth. The fingers were carried over the jawline, onto the face. So what you said is most true.

I personally have found that shaving north -> south over the jawline and chin works the best for me. Open combs glide more and "get stuck" less, so I prefer those. I also puff my cheeks out as a way of keeping the skin more taut.

On the second pass, I still go north -> south, but sometimes I will try to pull my lower lip into my mouth with my mouth open to get that same skin taut in a slightly different way. Sometimes I simply puff my cheeks out again.

Occasionally, I will have a patch on my left jawline (I am right handed) where I will shave midline -> ear or the reverse for a few strokes (blade buffing).

Shaving XTG on my chin never worked well for me and gave me lots of nicks/razor burn. Hence, I avoid that for the most part. I do not shave that area, or any other area to be honest, ATG.

Seraphim, I tried your suggested experiment and I am happy to report it worked pretty well for me. Thank you for sharing and thank you for the original OP for asking this question. :)

Interesting solution that I just tried.
Thanks again for the your guidance.

XTG works best at the jawline for me but for my chin I have yet to find a satisfactory method.

Try the Joker's grin from the 40s-50s era Batman comics.
