My fiance picked up super adjustable for me today. It is in pretty good condition except the adjustment knob is stuck on 7. It looks like it gunked up with old soap scum, anyone know a good way to fix this.
Any tips would be greatly appreciated thanks!
I soaked it in some barbicide for about an hour hoping that would loosen some of the soap scum but it didn't really make a difference, I think I am gonna give scrubbing bubbles a try.
The real danger with boiling water is that the razor would presumably rest on the bottom of the pan, which is in direct contact with the heat source and therefore much higher than 212 F. I have used a steamer insert several times with no ill effect, but note that no plastic parts were involved. Given the inherent dangers of chemical soaks, I think steam is the way to go.
Of course I've set myself up, so tee off naysayers!
The mineral oil sounds like a good idea in this instance, as well.
Boiling water itself, poured over a razor in a bowl with some dish soap, won't hurt a Gillette . . . but I always advise "very hot, almost boiling" water just to prevent someone from saying I told them to boil their razor!
I used to work as a mechanic, and anytime I got a ratchet that would start acting up (sticking, ratchet teeth not engaging), I would take all of my ratchets at the same time (may as well tune em all up) and soak them overnight or over the weekend in auto trans fluid. Basically it's a mineral oil loaded with detergents. Pull them out, work the mechanisms a bit, drop em in for another quick flush, set them on some rags to drain. They would work like new after this process. I have no idea if this would be safe for your adjustable, or if would even be effective. I mean auto transmissions these days are full of plastic, so I don't think it would have any effect on plastic or anything. I would guess that it would be safe, but ya know... at your own risk.
