James Bond/Daniel Craig

All you need to know about the Roger Moore Bond is the three films that made use of American Motors vehicles. I love that river jump, and my Father worked his whole life in Canada (almost) for AMC, but those cars SUCKED.

I find it really quite funny on any interweb forum when someone asks who the best Bond is, or what the best film is - you rarely find any consensus which must mean something, in that they all appeal to someone somehow.

FWIW, I think Connery is best, closely followed by Craig. I agree that Moore's films are a very mixed bag, some very good and some stupidity. Dalton had one excellent outing in LTK, and Brosnan's are mostly OK. Lazenby was pretty decent and I think his one film is a good effort, top 10 easily. My favourite is still DAF, but Skyfall and CR up well up there, however, the worst in my opinion is QOS. I have only ever seen it once, even though I have a BluRay boxed set up to Spectre. It could have been any old action movie, and that's not what I want from Bond.

I agree to begin with Casino Royale for the Craig films. It does a very good job of reintroducing James Bond and setting the expectation that we are dispensing with the camp and getting back to the nitty gritty of Bond. If you go straight to Skyfall, then you'll lose significant insight into the character.

Quantum of Solace. Yeah, don't worry about that one. It may as well have been titled "Quantum of Wasted Time." It does carry along some character development, but I don't recall by how much. Skyfall alludes to QoS a few times, but almost apologetically, i.e., "we are sorry that you had to endure that steaming cowpie. In appreciation, here are some tidbits that you'll enjoy marginally more than everyone else because you didn't sit it out."

Quantum of Solace suffered from being filmed during a screenwriters strike. Producers were stubborn and did not want to wait for the strike to end and so "others" fleshed out the "script" and fans are left to wonder "what might have been"?

The only reason I would recommend anyone watch QoS in-between Casino Royale and Skyfall, is the small bit of Casino Royale closure at the end of QoS.
That being said, I did find it more enjoyable after re-watching it a few times. Spectre was a bit disappointing, but again, after re-watching it, it made more sense, and wasn't as bad as the first time I watched it.

The '50s thing with Barry Nelson as an American Bond is awful.
He's called "Jimmy" Bond, and that says it all.
I got it as a stocking stuffer years ago (on VHS!).

For me there is only Roger Moore. End of story. He was supreme.

After Connery's run i've only really like Brosnan's "Die another day" and Craig's "Skyfall", that being said, i'm probably alone on this one but i really like the James Bond Comic by Warren Ellis, now that's the Bond i want to see in films:

I too like the Dynamite series, but really enjoy the reprints of the old London Daily Mail strip that adapted the novels and then struck out with their own stories. it predates the movies so stays quite a bit more faithful to the books. That said, the newer Anthony Horowitz novels are really good (IMO).

I can't talk down any Bond actors. They're all good in their own right. Daniel Craig is awesome at the role and I agree with the comments about him fitting the novels. Check out my avatar though for a reminder if you're confused about which one was the best.

Craig takes the role to a new level. He is the grittiest Bond by far. The fight scenes look pretty realistic (and brutal and painful as well). I like Connery quite a bit too, though.
I don't know what made me cringe more - LeChiffre torturing Bond in the bottomless chair in Casino Royale, or Skyfall, where Silva was getting a little too close and comfortable with Bond during their first meeting. I honestly had to look away from that scene.

I have to admit that Craig's Bond is one hell of a man. I don't think I would ever be able to bounce back from torture like that, to the point where I could seduce Eva Green!!

As far as I'm concerned, Connery is Da Man!

I haven't seen Craig yet, but from what I've heard I may order the first two DVDs so I can watch them with an intermission at my choosing.

I'm glad Connery got out of Bond to try and avoid typecasting. He made some good movies after. The Alcatraz one was good, along with the one with him as King Arthur. I liked this one also...maybe because I was writing at that time.

That doesn’t look like Timothy Dalton.
I think Dalton could have been a great Bond. A lot of things conspired against him, the Brosnan thing hurt his initial chances, and then he got held up by studio financial troubles. He's got Craig's darkness, just a couple decades too early.

Dalton was in the running for the job when Lazenby and then Moore got it. He turned it down, saying he was too young and didn't want to follow Connery.
