James Bond/Daniel Craig

Rhody

I'm a Lumberjack.
The bond actor is one factor of many in determining top position. Connery gets the top spot out of longevity and personality. A cool customer to be sure. Many of the connery flicks dont hold up today imh. Some camp foolishness and out of date stuff. This point is proven to the extreme with the advent of roger moore. You cant have a good bond over a background of joke camp and silly move making imh. Example? Jaws and the flying circular saw weapon. And the formula of the villain confessing the entire plan to bond before killing him via time delay contraption that bond later escapes from.
All that being said my vote is for d craig and the type of films hes been in .

For me Connery has been the only great Bond. That being said, I've never seen a Craig/Bond film. What is your recommendation as to which is the best of the series.
I think Skyfall is the best of his films, so I’d say watch it, or torture yourself and just watch them in order. None of them are very good.

Apparently with 007 as with shaving YMMV!
Has anyone seen the '54 television version of Casino Royale with Barry Nelson and Peter Lorre as Le Chiffre?

I've seen the '67 Casino Royale spoof one with David Niven and it was crap,
Haven't seen it but from what I understand Niven was more what Fleming had in mind for Bond and that's why he wasn't happy about Connery being cast until after he saw it.

I will be renting the Craig version of Casino Royale soon.

You mean they still made Bond movies after Connery? I saw the first two Bond movies in high school and the third and fourth in college when they first came out. I even remember reading all the Fleming Bond books thru 1964, but I don't remember seeing any films after Thunderball or reading any books after You Only Live Twice.

I really like the Bond movies and books. I have a favorite for each actor who played the part
Connery From Russia With Love
Craig Skyfall
Moore For Your Eyes Only
Brosnan Goldeneye
Dalton Licence to Kill
And if course Lazenby only had the one

Oh yeah! I grew up watching the James Bond movies as they'd hit network TV, and loved them all, even though I didn't particularly care for Roger Moore as Bond - although, Live and Let Die was one of my favorites, probably due to the soundtrack more than Moore. When I saw Daniel Craig in Casino Royale, I was absolutely stunned. It was like Bond went from campy to legit all of a sudden. Having seen all of his Bond films, I'd rank them them as such:
1-Casino Royale
2-Skyfall - (Javier Bardem wins top spot for creepiest Bond villian, right behind Mads Mikkelson)
3-Quantum of Solace
4-SPECTRE

It's really hard to decide whether Casino Royale or Skyfall is better, so I'm OK if you think Skyfall is better. Also, the transitioning of Dame Judy Dench's "M" over to Ralph Fiennes was a lot better than I expected it to be.

Craig has done an outstanding job of resurrecting Bond and making it totally legit.

Saw the TV version recently. Had all the production values of a grammar schoool pageant. Plus Barry Nelson was embarrassingly miscast as 007.

Interesting about David Niven. Legend has it that Fleming wanted Bond to be played by Hoagy Carmichael (or at least someone who looked like him!).

Agreed. The last really good (and reasonably legit and faithful) pre-Craig Bond motion picture was "From Russia With Love." JMHO.

watch Casino Royal first. skip Quantum. Watch Skyfall. skip the most recent travesty.

Connery was good as bond, sure, but that doesnt mean you cant enjoy the new ones.

Skyfall is very good. period.

I can't believe it took this many posts for someone to mention From Russia with Love. Goldfinger had the DB5, but that can't beat the Orient Express. It was the best film until Skyfall for my money.

Craig takes the role to a new level. He is the grittiest Bond by far. The fight scenes look pretty realistic (and brutal and painful as well). I like Connery quite a bit too, though.

Watch the Craig films chronologically. It makes more sens . They're all good. A very edgy and tough Bond character.

From Russia With Love is my favorite of all the movies. I like the story line. There isn't much that requires suspension of disbelief. Cold War drams. Oh, and Robert Shaw.

Oh, and Daniela Bianchi

Yeah, that's my all-time favourite for all the reasons given.

No doubt. I always perk up and stare intently during the half second she is slipping into Bond's room.

The Moore years are a mixed bag. You have really stupid stuff like Sheriff Pepper and the Tarzan yell, and then you get some really cool stuff like the dog scene in Moonraker or the mountain raid in FYEO.
