J.R. Torrey?

I just won a J.R. Torrey razor on ebay. I have heard some good things about them. I know they are American made. The words, "The Celebrated Hollow Ground Razor," are etched on the side of the blade. The first picture below gives a decent impression of the blade, and the scales look decent.

Does anyone have any experience with these?

Funny, I was just recently given the exact same razor from my Mother. She said it was my Grandfathers which was handed down to my Father (who just passed away about a year ago), and she has given it to me with my new interest in shaving. I am thinking of finding someone I can send it to and get it honed so I can use it too, it would be pretty cool to use something that both my Father and Grandfather have used.

Yes, for some reason or another, I am a big Torrey fan. I have like 5 or 6 I think, 2 I shave with and 3 or 4 are waiting for me to restore them. I like them alot. And they have been great shavers. The one you have will clean up very well :thumbup1:

I just picked up my third Torrey off the Bay a few days ago, an "Army" etched blade with faux tortoise scales. I really do like them and they're a shining example of underrated American steel. They make great shavers and are usually reasonably priced.

Honestly, once I get this one cleaned up and hone it, I don't really even know if I want to sell it or keep it for myself!
