It's Drunken Pumpkin Season

Each year with the coming of Halloween we look forward to the release of the Pumpkin Ales. Along with just enjoying these beers we also take the opportunity to partake in the occasional Drunken Pumpkin.

Start with a Pumpkin Ale of your choosing and a can of Guinness Draught. If you have it available on tap even better. I've not had good luck with the bottles but YMMV. Here I have Post Road but any Pumpkin Ale will do.

Split the Pumpkin Ale between two 16 oz. glasses.

Then using a little tool like this or a bent & upside down tablespoon gently float the Guinness on top of the Pumpkin Ale.

You should end up with something like this.

These are a great seasonal mix and go well with most any Pumpkin Ale. I find these go down pretty easy. Enjoy!

Can people suggest pumpkin ales that taste more like pumpkin? I tried a beer at a bar that was so very good and pumpkiny but don't recall what brand it was. I just this week picked up a 6 of Sam Adams Pumpkin ale but its not very pumpkiny and mostly just pumpkin pie spices it tastes like.

Wow, it's like a "black and tan" only with pumpkin ale instead of Bass, I will have to give it a try. Thanks!

A little off subject, but here in Sherwood, kids can trick or treat forever, so many houses!, and us dads carry flasks, quite a crazy night!

i did this with "blue point" ale..??? and again yes, not very pumpkiny. more spice than pumpkin.
but all and all, it wasnt bad. gotta love Guinness.:a51::a54::a8:

It's definately worth a try. Beer should be fun, never serious.
I'd defintely be willing to try pumpkin and guinness. I love a good half and half or black and tan. The DFH is like $11 a 4 pack so that is why I'm not quite sure i want to mix it haha. I picked up a fall pack from Harpoon, maybe I will try their pumpkin in it.

I'm with you. I think they make great beer but DFH prices, for the most part, have gone above what I'm willing to pay. Luckily there's a lot of local or nearby breweries making great beer.

Wow never even heard of pumpkin ale. In Australia we don't celebrate Halloween. I might go on the hunt tomorrow for this crazy ale!
