Italian Shaving Extravaganza!

I'm off to Italy - Lo Stivale - in a couple of weeks and was wondering if anyone had any advice for any specific shaving stuff I should keep my eyes open for while there. Of course Proraso is from Florence, but are there any other shaving creams/soaps/after shaves/razor paraphernalia/etc. that are unique to Italy that would be easier to find (or cheaper) over there?

Of course I'll be focusing on the wine, food and culture, but I should be able to fit in a few moments for my new "hobby"!:001_tongu

Thanks, all!

Couple of things come to mind. Bolzano DE blades and Omega brushes. Oh, and try to find the Proraso RED shaving Cream

I am sure more experienced members here will chime in with other suggestions.

Sounds like your going to have lots of fun. Have a safe trip and please report back with your findings.

Figaro shaving soap, Valobra, Cella shaving soap.

For the wine & food, it's cheap and good! I loved it! A 4 Euros bottle of wine at the supermarket is very drinkable.

You will find a treasure trove in Italy. Just go to a pharmacy of similar store and look around. The Bolzanno blades are great - just too expensive in the U.S.

There are many shaving creams and soaps: Cella, Omega, the list goes on. Just look around and ask questions.

You could look for some luxury creams like Santa Maria Novella, Domenico Caraceni or Acqua di Parma collezione barbiere. This is espensive material, though.

Floid ASL's are easy to find.

For the rest, there is also P.160, Cella, Valobra and of course, all the Proraso line.

+1 to all the above. "BluePoint" stores sell Floid aftershaves.

Malizia Uomo Vetyver aftershave is even cheap here at $5 for 100ml at the Italian Grocery so it should be almost free there. They're trying to compete with Aqua Velva & Skin Bracer I guess, so don't expect much. I didn't smell the stuff but I'm sure it's worth a try. Cheap isn't necessarily bad. I use Skin Bracer all the time. BTW, since your in Germany can you find out the best price for Sir Irisch Moos there.

If you'll come to visit Rome, you could take in consideration the thread I posted here: http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php?t=154961

What a great post that was, Marco - thanks.

I note that one of your top Rome addresses is at 192 Via Cola di Rienzo. That jogged my memory, since my favorite Roman delicatessen is at number 204. It's called Franchi, and I've been going there about once a year (alas, that's as often as I get to go to Rome) for twenty years or more. A fabulous, bustling old-fashioned place, with a huge selection of freshly-cooked dishes, plus wines. I highly recommend it to all B&Bers. There is a great grocery shop just a few storefronts towards the river, on the same side of the street. I don't remeber its name. This is a wonderful part of Rome, just a stone's throw from Saint Peter's.
