Is this Travel Tech a good value?

You can get them for cheaper, but $13 isn't really overpaying. Any nice vintage razor for $13 is a steal. The thing about these travel techs though is that most of them have never been used because they aren't very practical. The handle is too short to be comfortable for shaving. The head design is great, but the handle is a problem.

If you like the idea of a compact razor for travel, try to find a 4 piece German travel razor, or buy a travel Merkur. Of course, that's my opinion. You may be quite happy with the tech. But I find I don't use mine for travel like I thought I would.

BTW, that handle design is American. Late techs and travel techs in the US had aluminum handles.

Seen 'em for less and more both. If you're set on one, I wouldn't think that was overpaying.

I find the short handle nearly unusable though, and a discussion with my father found that he thought the same some decades back.

I really like the old Spanish army takedown razors. Be even nicer if the screw threads were compatible with gillettes.

Every travel razor I've owned has been a waste of money. I travel with a full size HD.

A full size Tech is also good as it breaks down into three parts.

Bottom line is I would not buy it even if it was a good deal. There is a reason there are so many mint travel razors out there.

I also find a ball-end tech breaks down to easily fit into a pill bottle. I use one when I travel.

That price is OK IMHO. The razor, however is awkward unless you have Smurf hands. As others have mentioned, a ball end Tech or Feather portable give you longer handles.

One thing not mentioned in this thread is that the heads of travel techs are the same as full size techs. Which means they work fine with full size handles. So they're excellent replacements for worn or damaged tech heads with decent handles. They can also be used with handles from many other manufactures such as Merkur, Muhle, Jagger, etc.

I have this same travel in a red case and I love it. Really do not mind the short handle and I find it just as easy to use as a standard tech. I've taken mine on three trips without issue. The case is convenient as long as the leather is not dry rotted like some I've seen. At $13, I'd buy it.
