Is this normal?

I waited for the silicone glue to dry completely to do the first cleaning to the knot, pre-shaving, so I lathered a little bit of hand soap and then a squirted a bit of conditioner and massaged it a bit. The initial smell almost went away, so I'm drying it in my desk, aside from my computer, and I can see that it almost doubled its size. Is this normal?

Some knots have done that after I have used them. My Kent BK8 expanded or bloomed quite a bit. If you want to "unbloom" it you can wet it and put a rubber band around the top of the knot. However, after you use it the first time most likely it will bloom again.

Oh, I don't complain. I feel I have a 28mm knot having paid for a 24mm. Looks and feels amazing. Let's see how it shaves in a couple hours.

I've had that happen too, especially on knots with a higher loft.
