What's new

Is this just a worn out handle on a New Standard?

I just received this hunk of steel in the mail today and tried to nail down exactly what year etc but it has a different looking handle. I've looked at Mr-razors site, ebay auctions and even recent post on here about the New Standard but the all of them seem to have the diagonal lines on the knob. My new one doesn't. Did I miss this model somewhere?

The earliest ones had that style knob.

Later they changed the knob to have a different pattern.

Look up the serial number. It should tell you the year it was made. (if no one mixed it to another set)

I was thinking this because of a comment I recently came across from MacDaddy:

The first one's definitely not a Single Ring. It might be a Gillette head, but the handle's at best "in the style of" the Single Ring. It appears to be a single piece that unscrews at the neck.

The second is a Frankenrazor of an early Tuckaway-style handle (the diamond pattern on the bottom knob of the handle changed sometime around the 1921-'22 cut-over) and a post-patent Old Type head.

^^this... I have 2, with and without serial #'s. IIRC, the one with a serial lacks the crossed lines, the one without has them. I doubt if they would have worn off.

Yes, some of those handles had that design with No Knurling, and some had same Design with Rough Knurling. I just cant Remember which Models.

Why did they make so many models?!? This makes it tough for people who want to collect them all. Guess I can check this one off my list. And here is a picture after foil & soda bath ready for use tonight.
