Is this good Fat Lather?

Received the puck on the weekend and I'm waiting a new brush which should be here tomorrow. Did a practice run with the VDH brush and it makes crazy amounts of lather. But I'm can't get rid of those semi-large bubbles. Tried more and less water, but still get them. Is that OK?

Thats is great!

The lucky amongst us get MWF to lather very quickly (soft water) and while you can shave with the airy lather you get initially - IMO - it's better to keep going until the lather loses the large bubbles and appears more creamy/slick in consistency. Just keep agitating/lathering with brush and you'll get there.

As for water - I'd personally start with less and then add as you go till you get the lather to desired consistency.

Thanks. I have to say that I was surprise at the amount of lather generated, since I keep reading how difficult it can be. Not to brag or disrespect anyone, but I did not find it any more difficult than the VDH, La Toja, Palmolive or even Cella...Ok, Cella is ridiculously easy, but MWF was not much harder. Not sold 100% on the grandma soap smell, but very looking forward to give this legend a try. I think I'll give it a go tomorrow...

That's not bad at all! Like was said above, keep agitating the lather around and you'll lose those bubbles, adding slickness and cushion. I find that it's easier to achieve with a good badger brush.

Hard to describe MWF scent. Really, just sort of a basic "soapy" scent. To my nose there is also a smokey smell in the mix. I'm not a fan of the scent, but it's not something repulsive or polarizing like Arko or Tabac.

----- describe the smell

It is funny because I used to read and read on MWF trying to see if anyone would give a good comprehensive description of the scent, and I always came back empty handed. N I find it hard to describe. However, here I go:
When I first opened the box it gave me a strong smell like my old grandmother's bathroom-- not a good thing. Although clean, it was always full of soaps and old creams she had once received as gifts. However, once unwrapped the smell dissipated. Still, it is an old fashioned soap smell. Somewhat like an unscented castille soap. Call me crazy, but I think the best way to describe it is a milder-less-"citronelly" version of Williams, with a powdery finish. It also reminds me of Ivory soap, but again, with a powdery finish. It is not great, but as Buxwheat mentioned, it is not repulsive or offensive. It does however lingers. I have done two lathers and both times my hands have kept the smell for well over an hour after lathering (I can still smell it in my hand after 3-4 hours of making the lather on the pic. above). I have not used a soap that lingers for so long, yet the smell is soft. And that's including strong scented ones like La Toja, Williams and Cella. I am yet to shave with it, so I am not even close to make a final decision on it. I would not mind the scent as long as it is a vast improvement over Cella in the lather/slickness department. If MWF anywhere close to Cella in this category, then I'll give the nudge to Cella.

To me, MFW smells like a warm, clean 100% natural wool sweater. I love it.

Yup, this is the exact image that comes to mind when I sell MWF.

I also absolutely love it. MWF and DRH Arlington are my two favorite soap scents and honorable mention to my beloved speick.

I rotate my bath soaps too and love it when I have an MWF bath and shave day.

It smells like an old fashioned soap to me. Reminds me of the bathroom soaps I encountered traveling through Ireland, England, & Wales. A pleasant reminder of my childhood, so combined with the top notch performance...this is hands down my #1.

Most people who have trouble with MWF live in hard-water areas. And this is very common in the US as, "more than 85% of American homes have hard water"..with the exceptions being "parts of the New England, South Atlantic-Gulf, Pacific Northwest, and Hawaii regions". Look up the water hardness in your region (the local water authority will usually publish it) - if you have soft water - MWF is a doddle.

Looks like the normal airy, dry, MWF lather to me. Seems about right.

I take it that you're not an MWF fan and/or haven't been able to get great lather out of it. :)

Honestly, to me that looks like it's too dry. I'd add a bit more water. I guess I'm in the minority on this, but I look for a little more sheen in the later - yours has a matte surface, which tells me it's too dry and meringue-y. Look at the peaks, facing sideways and still stiff. The very tip should be dropping downward. Add a touch of water and keep lathering.
