Is This Dubl Duck A Deal?

proxy.php

I have been considering a jump to str8's recently. I was in a flea market today and a Dubl Duck razor I think identical to the one in the above picture was in a case. They were asking $18 but seemed eager to deal and offered it to me for $14. I held it in my hand. The handle was perfect, and the blade had no pitting as far as I could tell. There were some small areas of discoloration/rust on the top, but those areas felt smooth to the touch. They looked like nothing serious. The blade was remarkably shiny as a matter of fact.

I wish I would have thought to take a picture with my phone to post the razor itself, but, as I said, it was pretty identical to the image above.

What do you think? Good deal for $14. If so, I may run back and pick it up.

Now I'm kicking myself for not just getting it. I was there right before closing at 3:00 P.M. and blinked. I actually went back and no one was there. They are closed the next two days so I will be there when they open on Thursday morning.

From the responses, I feel like a total newb:blush:.

I have found that when negotiating, leverage is everything. They don't want the razor, but want your $14. The obvious answer is to thoughtfully inspect the razor, then with the quickness of a jaguar leap on top of the display table while shouting "I'll cut you man!"... Depending on whether or not they have good medical insurance, I'll wager they would accept a 10 spot for it.

That said, I'd not risk pulling a groin muscle and would gladly pay $14 for that bad boy. :thumbup1:

:lol::lol:

Now I am getting excited. Excuse my ignorance, but this razor would be vintage, and German? I can't find a whole lot about their history online.

Dublin ducks are extremely highly regarded. I'm surprised you can't find much info on them, they're on most peoples wishlist

A Dubl Duck in that condition would fetch anywhere from $50-$100 on eBay. I would have snapped the sellers wrist taking it out of his hand so fast for $14.

That would sell in a few hours if put on eBay with a BIN of $75-100.

It looks like a nearly NOS razor. I wouldn't be surprised to see it fetch a little over $100 at auction.

Well, like I said, the one I saw was not the one in the photo, but virtually identical and in substantially the same condition. All of you have me pretty stoked now. I don't think it's going anywhere. As my wife said, that razor is a needle in a haystack in that flea market, and they are closed for the next two days.

Once I pick it up I will post photos. Thanks so much for all of the responses.

In this part of the woods that will get you two hollowpoints to center of mass faster that a cat can lick it's ... but I do get your point. It just pays to have some serious situational awareness before you make such a play. :biggrin1:

Well, there is that to think of!

Carry a few stuffed animals, take SWMBO, and look bored. That could prevent them from doubling up on the Dubl Duck.

If they do double up, get it anyway. I would, even if it seemed foolish. (It would not be foolish). The only deal breaker is if the blade is nicked, or if it has massive flats worn on the sides of the spine.
