What's new

Is this an early disposable razor unsure?

Hi I have a number of Valet auto strops in my collection.
Some take the larger blade some the smaller some made by gillette some made by valet UK.
but I only have one that the blade is fixed also valet is not stamped through the blade.
Yesterday I another B&B member posted a pic of a simaler razor with a removable blade like a the others I have seen.
I can see no way to remove the blade witch would make it disposable.
Here are the pics.Smithy

I believe it is an earlier model, and did not require the cut-out blades. But the blade is still meant to be stropped. The cut-out blades came along later, to discourage use of third-party blades.

I have a similar example, and I once figured out how to remove the blade. Right now I cannot remember exactly how I did it, though.

Its a valet blade just no cut outs other than that it looks the same as the other valet blades I have>

Yeah I can't see how to remove it with out damaging the razor as you can see in the 1st pic it looks like someone has already tryed

That is an early Valet blade, and it will come out, it simply slides in from the side. To remove it just slide it the opposite direction and pull it up slightly. You may have to use a pair of pliers to help it along if it's been in there for awhile.

I'm confused when you say you have Valets that take different size blades. All of the blades made for Valet Autostrops are the same size, including the modern Feather blades.

Here's a picture of one of mine with a Feather blade halfway in the holder.

Hi Tom thanks for the info on removing the blade from this razor.
As for the two blade sizes its true.
attached is a pic of two full NOS boxs of ten blades the larger blade fits most valet auto's and when I have more time I will dig out the one that takes the smaller one.
thanks again for your help mate I will get the pliers and try it.

Well, that is interesting. Can you take a shot of the two different size blades together so we can see how much difference in size there is between them.

Hi Tom here are pics you asked for I'd say by the labling they are pre gillette take over
baybe gillette discontinued the smaller size? allI know is they are hard to come by
As I am in Australia up till now my only sorce of NOS blades is ebay or ioffer (ioffer seems to have fallen of the perch lately to many rip offs)

Normally you don't, but I've bought a couple that had old blades that had been in there forever and the only way they came out safely was to help them along with pliers.

Aye. This part bedeviled me for weeks after I got my first one. "Encouragement" was all that was needed.

There is a youtube video where the guy shows how to get the blades in and out of this model. Regarding the blade sizes, I had two different sized packages like, but if my memory serves me well (which it sometimes doesn't :) ), when I removed the blades from the packaging, they were the same size. Take those out of their packages and let's see
