Is this a reasonable assortment to start out with?

I'm tempted to just order a box of 100 Astra SP's or Personna blue box "lab" blades (because they are cheap and everybody seems to like them), but everyone tells me I need to try an assortment first. Does this look OK? Are there any others I really need to add to the list? (I would have got some Crystals but they are out of stock) This is 51 blades, that should last me well over a year.

1940's Gilette Tech. I haven't received it yet; bought it from Krona Kruiser a couple of days ago and am having it replated. I will probably share some blades with my dad, he has an old Gilette adjustable.

I'm also going the check the local junk and antique shops to see if they have any old razors. (I know to sterilize them if I find anything)

I'd throw a pack of Gillette 7 O'Clock Black Super Platinum blades in there, but I am biased towards them. Maybe the same blade in the Blue package, but I like the Blacks a little better.

I'd recommend Gillette Silver Blues and Polsilver SIs also.

I agree you should add Gillette black, for me is by far the best blade.

I probably am the only one that did not like the Personna labs blue box. I bought a 100 box and still have 99 that I will not use again.

Good assortment but you might as well get the 100 count of the Astra SP and Personna Super Blues.

You know you want them, otherwise you would not have said you were "tempted"

That is a nice set to start with. Work your way through them slowly and you will find some that you really like.

That's almost exactly the same batch of blades I started with 18 months ago, except I didn't have the gillette Super Thins. I found a couple of blades I love in there.. Astras and Feathers. None of the others worked nearly as well for me as those, but I've converted a few friends to DE shaving and they've loved some of those same blades I passed on. I'd hold off on buying 100 of anything until you try some.. those Astra 100 packs will be there when you fall in love with them first hand.. easy for me to say now, but I had that same temptation with the Lab Blues right off the bat.. bought 100, haven't used many...

I'm right there with ya.. I liked those a lot when I first started, but once I bought a bunch of feathers and Astras, the labs just sat there. I tried one 6 months later and didn't like it much. May try again, but I don't know.. lots of blades in my cupboard I like a lot more!

Very nice blade selection. I like Astra SPs and Personna labs. I prefer the Personna labs over the Astras though. It sucks because I have 900 Astra blades and only 80 lab blades.
