Is there such a thing....

...as a heavy straight razor? I had two at one point (seperately in time) and I just felt they were so light that I could barely feel them in my hand and against my face? Any suggestions? Ideas? Sub $60 range preferably. Thanks!

Weight will depend on the size of the blade. A larger blade, as an example a 7/8 size will be heavier than a 4/8 size. As well if you look at a wedge style blade as opposed to an extra hollow ground, there will be more "meat" to the razor itself. Standard suggestions, support our vendors like Larry Andro at Whippeddog.com, or shop in the B/S/T forum here.

Weight is obviously determined by the size and gring of the blade. An 8/8 wedge is going to be alot heavier than a 4/8 full hollow. Length of blade is also a factor. I've seen some Solingen blades that have been very long.

i have a 6/8 gold dollar and a 5/8 gold dollar and there is a significant difference in feeling to me. maybe it's a personal sensitivity to a 1/8 difference and heavier? scales but i felt it.

Then keep an eye out for your favorite size, 5/8, 6/8 etc, in a heavier grind, wedge, 1/4 hollow, etc. That will give you the heft you're looking for.

Answering for myself, yes! I was on TV. Now, women, many fine women are camping outside my door straining for a glimpse of me thru the curtains. It is annoying my wife quite a bit: :001_rolle

Have your wife walk out the front with a couple of your open straights, one in each hand grasping them like a butcher knife and I am pretty sure they will all leave in a big hurry :lol::lol:

Also some razors have a wider spine which will add to the heft or heavier feel.
