Is there anything out there that shaves closer than a MS?

Possibly an open comb Gem Micromatic (with a proper blade).

[Edit: Assuming MS = Merkur Slant.]

Protip: When in the Method Shaving forum, MS = Method Shave.

I thought that was assumed...

I think Straight razor would be closer then a MS with a regular DE. Or a straight razor MS.

The str8 razor is closer than a DE with conventional products. However with MS, the sheer number of strokes over each piece of stubble combined with the multiple directions of passes over each stubble gives IMO a closer shave. For example: a fresh feather blade going 10 times over stubble in atleast 4 directions WTG XTG ATG, versus a 2 pass str8 WTG XTG

When people come in and start saying that MS=Merkur Slant, I just don't know. I think that people don't even realize when they stumble in the Method Shaving forum. I feel like people are looking for random posts to comment on and just come on in post away without knowing that this is for Method Shaving, not just about any shaving method you have.

I found this post by clicking on the new post button on the home page. I didn't realize that I had stumbled into the method shaving forum at first. It wasn't clear to me at first that MS was method shaving. We have a few acronyms and abbreviations on this site, so its easy for me to see how someone could make that assumption.

Right, I can see how people would not realize where in the forum they are. There should be a warning when you enter the MS sub-forum.

So are there any other thoughts on this subject? I'm not suggesting MS is or isn't the best way to shave. I'm just saying in my experience MS delivers closer shaves than anything out there...

I actually use a slant-bar for all shaving (mostly). I posted a comment about it in the slant social group but traffic there is slow. As to closeness, I'd have to say that, IME, the RMWS gives close shaves more consistently than other methods.

I shaved with both a straight and safety razor. Even went to a barber to get straight shave, but the closest shaves are from a safety razor. You will fell a difference. As with a straight, its much harder going ATG on your neck, but with a safety its much easier. You can make all the passes you want with either razor, but it much easier, faster, and closer with a safety. At first I thought straight shaving gave a closer shave, so I tried it and I was wrong. I still like to occasionally use a straight razor, especially my Henckel's 7/8 Friodur.
