Is there an vintage adjustable that shaves like a Tech?

In my seemingly never-ending to "complete" my collection, I'm debating getting a relatively easily replaceable razor for a travel kit (ultimately it'll be a GEM Junior 1912 and a DE). I do not want to pack my 7 O' Clock in gold/rosegold for the obvious reason of "they might lose my bag."

I like the idea of a Tech, but I haven't tried a prewar Tech and the postwar one is very mild but not as effective as I would like. (it's still an option)

I was thinking of trying an adjustable, like a Slim or Fatboy - do these shave similarly to a Tech? Or if I like the Tech would I be better off trying a prewar Tech and figuring out which I like better (prewar vs postwar)?

Alternately, I could just use the GEM Junior, which to be honest works really well. It's just not a really mild razor that's as idiot-proof as my postwar Tech.

Closest would be Gillette Super Adjustable or a Merkur Progress (for a new razor)

Any one of the Gillette adjustables can be dialed down to resemble a Tech, but as Turtle said the obvious choice is a Black Beauty. The others have to be adjusted one step more....

I used a fat handled tech and a ball end tech back-to-back (different days) earlier this week with the same blade.

I tend to agree with what I've read, that the fat handle with triangle cutouts was more aggressive, but only slightly so.

So, you're looking for a cheap, easily replaceable razor for travel and your leading candidate is a hard to find, $80-$100 Fatboy?

I suggest sticking to your Gem.

I have a slim adjustable and a tech. The tech is currently my favorite and I love the way it shaves. I just can't seem to get the slim to shave like the tech no matter what setting I choose.

The Tech is an amazing shaver.
Any adjustable that I've tried, at the low end, is nowhere as smooth.
If, what you want is a 'more aggressive' Tech, you might try to shim it.
Otherwise, for travel purposes, there's nothing wrong with a simple Tech.

My favorite Tech is the flat base English Tech. Killer razor. Made just before the war broke out so not a lot of them around

I . . . cannot argue with this logic.
