What's new

is there a cheapie drugstore AS for summer without the menthol?

should i look at sport versions? forgot to mention i'm looking for a splash.

looked at the list of american aftershave makers. i can only spot old spice non originals and mennen cooling blue among those that may be suitable for summer. which of the newer old spice products do you rec? i have a glass bottle of old spice white water and it's okay. i bought it mostly because i like the way they decant compared to the velva.

so no one makes a orange or lemon AS splash from the drugstores? i'm not very fond of lime but i guess if i had no choice i would consider it an option.

What about Brut or Clubman? They aren't a single note citrus, but there's lots in there. Brut has a touch of menthol to it, but not much. Pinaud Citrus Musk is also very nice--a kind of lime meets clean linen scent. As much as I love Pinaud, I can't recommend Lime Sec. It smells like hard candy to me.

If you want to look around a little bit more, Royall might do the trick. They have a lime (Lyme) and mandarin (Mandarin).

Well, it's hard to find at a drugstore, but Pinaud Eau de Portugal may be what you are looking for, as far as orange notes and being cheap.

Murray and Lanman's Florida Water. Not marketed as an aftershave, but a lot of people use it as one.

In the Hispanic sections of some of the grocery stores near me, there are a variety of inexpensive light fragrances that could be used as an AS - orange blossom, orange, and rose come to mind, as well as Florida Water and Kananga Water (ylang ylang fragrance).

Florida Water. It's so cheap you have to give it a shot.

I'm toying with the idea of getting the Pinaud Citrus Musk and Eau de Portugal.

Have you thought about using straight witch hazel? It won't leave a scent, but is plenty refreshing and works great.

If you're looking for a citrus scent, try Caswell-Massey No. 6. It's a very American scent; a favorite of George Washington, even. I love to wear it in the warmer months.

I've never seen a citrus AS in a store, let alone orange or lemon, unless you count witch hazel. If you have a Whole Foods market near you, I would check it out for exactly that, as well as some of their other aftershave products like Aubrey Organics. Though I've not heard any word on its menthol content, Walmart carries Brut Attitude in a blue bottle. I honestly think the last one will be your best bet.

If you want something inexpensive without the requirement of it needing to be available locally, you can always try the booster line of products of which Iced Lime, June, and Jickey might be something to consider. You may also consider Arko aftershave colognes sold at Shave A Buck, Clubmand Citrus Musk, and Pinaud Lime Sec.

My first thoughts have already been posted here: Pinaud's Citrus Musk (thanks, Nid) and Eau de Portugal (thanks Insomniac). Both light, citrus-y summer scented AS's with absolutely no menthol.

Another one that I've just discovered and am enjoying in the heat is Pinaud Special Vanilla. Don't let the name fool you: it's not what you'd think - the vanilla is far from out front, and it's not a sweet scent at all. Manly and clean is what comes to mind for me. It's also cheap and fairly easily obtainable.

:lol::lol:Oh, and where is Phil (Luvmysuper) touting the Veg?!:lol::lol:

+1 on the M&L Florida Water, Pinaud Citrus Musk and Pinaud Vanilla Musk. I also really like Superior 70 Bay Rum. Very light and refreshing without the burn of other spicier bay rums (e.g. Pinaud and Ogallala). 4711 after shave splash is also a quite nice, light summer compatible scent.
