Is the general consensus that the Sensor Excel is the best cartridge system?

Until recently I would've gave the nod to the Trac II but a few months ago I found a huge stash of Wilkinson Bonded Razor cartridges and after getting a handle in a trade I have to say it's the best cartridge system I've ever used. Trac II is second, followed by the Atra and then the Sensor.

For me, hands down the best multi blade system is Sensor. I started shaving with one when they first came out in the early nineties and tried each progressive Gillette improvement as they came out. I never found one as good as the Sensor and continued to use one until I started shaving with vintage tools about two years ago.

As the title says, is this the best cart for most people?

Personally, I think that before and after the two-blade Sensor, clogging was more of a problem. I wouldn't have made the swap just for speed only, 19 years ago when I went from a DE five days a week, and a Sensor occasionally, to the reverse, no matter the press of time, had it not been better than the Atra in regard to the clogs. I did try the Sensor3, and Mach3. I wasn't impressed. I have not tried the Fusion, but of all the three- blade critters, the Schick Htdro3 is least objectionable.

I thought I'd no idea what a Track II is. I haven't seen this in China and can't remember seeing it for sale inScotland, but I think my dad might have had this 'system' at one point. Why am I not surprised it was released in 1971, the original and still considered by many to be better than all the advanced systems they have come out with?

When I used a cart I used the Sensor Excel.
I preferred it to the Fusion that's for sure.
I remember one time buying a Schick Diamond FX.
It was pretty good, but not as good as the Sensor Excel.

I think I still have the handle somewhere.

i think the Track might be called the GII in The UK.
This look familiar?

Funnily enough, Boots do the cartridge but not the handle.

I basically tried them all. IMHO the Sensor or Sensor Excel is definitely, without a doubt, by far, the best cartridge system ever made. I think Consumer Reports also at the time (late 80's & 90's) verified my findings and ranked it #1 & best in class.

Another vote for the Sensor Excel. It was because I was generally so happy with that cartridge that I dithered for years about switching to DE shaving (I've always been a wet shaver, BTW). I did experience some chronic irritation on my neck, and switching to DE shaving recently has started to fix all those problems, so I won't be going back. But if I had to, I would go back to the Sensor.

I never had a sensor, I remember my Dad using one. When I started to shave 15 years ago I got a Mach 3 and used that exclusively until about a year or two ago when the handle broke. After that I was given a fusion mail sample with one blade and started using the fusion. Well I quickly found that I did not like the fusion as much as the Mach 3 because of price which led me to look into alternatives... Now that I have used DE I never want to go back!

I prefer the standard Sensor carts. No silly rubber fins.

I still keep one handy for my ears (sheesh), and for travel.

I believe I recall a Sensor without any added folderol, same as there was both the Atra, and the Atra "Plus", but it's just not for sale any more. There is, finally, an aftermarket for Sensor cartridges at half the cost, that we'll need to verify is worth the price, or enough worse than the Gillette product not to be in the running. The label they are sold under is Burma Shave, I think.

I used sensor excels for a long time... but admitedly switched to fusion for years before starting DE shaving. Never had a problem with irritation, just found fusion gave a closer shave.

I used a Sensor Excel for years before returning to DEs in 06. The wife still uses one to shave the back of my neck (she is afraid to use one of my DEs) before my weekly buzz hair cut. IMHO the Sensor was and is the best cartridge shaver.

I have used Sensor, Sensor Excel, Mach 3, Fusion, and Fusion Pro Glide. While I was just a damn kid when I was using Sensors, I do remember "thinking" there was improvement with each successive upgrade. When I first used a Fusion, I was actually quite impressed with the shave I got. Although over time, I realized I was experiencing more razor burn the more blades per cartridge I used. Now that I know how to wet shave with a DE, I am considering going back to the Sensor when I travel via air without checking a bag. Too bad I threw out my Sensor handles a couple years ago. :bored: So, I vote Sensor -- less blades, less burn. Trac II and Atra are also two-blade systems, but they were before my time and can't comment on them.
