Is Strop draw all in my head?

Guys, I have one paddle strop with Boving leather(Soft, more draw) and one paddle with HandAmerican leather(Slick, much less draw). I like the draw of the Bovine but i'm wondering if the draw makes a difference to the sharpness of the blade or is that all in my head?

I think it matters, if only because the draw that matches your style and razor allow you to strop up the edge better.

For example, a super hollow blade seems to strop better on horsehide for me, while my heavier grinds feel better on latigo.

I agree with Kent, I love my Kanayama strop for hollow grinds, wedges or near weges seem to like my TM steerhide much better.

I've been thinking about this too of late. Star Shaving rates its black strop at 60,000x and its burgundy and chestnut strops at 90,000x. Don't ask me how such a rating is derived, but it seems to imply that less draw could achieve a finer edge. Following this, I have been going back and forth between English bridle and cordovan shell with a full hollow. When things get too sharp, I hit the English bridle, then back to the cordovan shell to bring things to finition. Is it all in my head?--maybe. But that's part of the fun of it.

Yeah, I noticed that my Big Daddy English Bridal has less draw than my Russian, so I prefer to use my Big daddy for hollow grinds and the Russian for everything else (Wedges, half hollows, etc...)..Of course I have a Tony miller on the way, and that could change everything!!

So in general are you saying that for super hollow grinds(5/8ths) the slicker strops give you a sharper edge?

I would say it's "easier" to get 40-50 good laps in on a lighter draw strop. I can so it on my grabbier Latigo, but not as fun nor satisfying. Kind of like making lather with a 1.99 brush vs. a 200.00 one.

In the end it doesn't really matter. BUT YMMV ;).
