What's new

Is shaving your #1 hobby?

Although sometimes it seems that shaving is my biggest hobby (especially ever since I joined B&B - that must be just a coincidence, right?), I also love to run. That's very good because I'm also very slow, so I get a chance to do it for longer than most!

In terms of frequency? Yes, because I shave daily.

In terms of cost? Nope. That belongs the to "Guns & Knives" hobby.

In terms of outright enjoyment? Nope. That goes to cooking (and eating!)

In terms of duration/longevity? Nope, "Guns & Knives" again.

Shaving is the newest, though!

My long lost Brother

Custom Knives, Guns, and Watches for me...almost forgot about the Flashlights

i honestly hadn't though of this as a hobby

to me, a hobby is something like model rocketry or amateur photography or keeping score at baseball games

or painting those little toy soldiers

or something

but shaving?

reminds me of that line from jaws: rum ain't drinkin' - it's survivin'

I guess razors, their collection and their history are indeed my number one hobby. I enjoy looking at them, looking for them, learning about them, researching about them, and certainly shaving with them. I also enjoy seeking out all kinds of other related items and ideas.

A hobby should be something that involves not only acquiring, but activity as well. So, for me, since I shave every day and can bring new tools, new techniques and new knowledge to that daily activity, it has without a doubt become my number one hobby.

Shaving items and related barberianna is a very respectful antiquing hobby. Some items are extremely rare and very valuable. You can also collect a vast array of items beyond razors - sharpeners, strops and stropping systems, blades and blade systems, shavers of great antiquity, accessories, mugs mirroring the development of pottery and ceramics, advertisements mirroring the development of marketing and monetary systems, photographs, administrative oddments such as old bills, communications, warranties, letters, patents, shares and stock holding papers, design documentation, company newsletters, ........

Razors and their associated items have very intimate links to society and its development. It allows one to investigate history going thousands of years. (Some early Egyptian barbers were thought to cater to upwards of 300-400 clients per day!! How is that for work ethic?? Does it compare with the modern day?? What role have barbers played in modern medicine? How did Gillette affect mass production? Is shaving a human requirement or a marketing byproduct?? ?? ???? More and more questions! :001_smile)

It really is a pursuit without end - just the way I like it! It is most certainly beyond 'having a shave'. YMMV

POGONOTOMISTS RULE!!!

Not my #1 hobby. Traveling the world is #1, #2 cigars, #3 buying Russian stuff, and shaving probably comes in at #10 on my list.

Have to give a big +1 for all of those. Every week I go to several gun/sporting good shops to see what ammo is available. Lot of it is scarce since the current president took office. Stuff just flew off the shelves. On the brighter side Big 5 usually has several knives on sale at a special price each week.
