Is Scrubbing Bubbles Safe For Vintage DE's?

I use Scrubbing Bubbles on my DE's periodically. However, I was reading the back of the can and it says it's not recommended for brass. So, is it safe for vintage DE's?

Scrubbing bubbles has its place

Always start with hot water and dawn dish detergent, a toothbrush works well.

If that does not do it, use scrubbing bubbles

I personally love scrubbing bubbles, I have never noticed it damaging a razor.

What's good to remove residual rust from around the posts on a single ring? Will soap and water do the trick if I scrub with a toothbrush?

I use Scrubbing Bubbles when I first get a razor that is in need of a good cleaning. I always use hot water and dishsoap first and then the Scrubbing Bubbles after I've done that. I use it to help kill some of the germs, but also to get the really stubborn gunk. Once I get the razor clean and I've polished it if it needs it with some Maas or Flitz, I don't see the need to use Scrubbing Bubbles more than maybe once or twice a year as long as you rinse your razor after every shave and periodically clean it with hot water and dishsoap. You don't use Scrubbing Bubbles on your silverware.... right? I mean, keeping a razor clean is about the same time as keeping your forks, knives and spoons clean. Scrubbing Bubbles are safe and won't ruin any finishes on a razor as long as you don't overdo it over a long period of time.

Any rust on a razor is the result of a blade being left in it for a long period of time and the rust you see is from the blade, not the razor metal. Brass and nickel will not rust and therefore any rust you see should be fairly superficial and will most likely come off with a toothbrush and hot water and soap or Scrubbing Bubbles and a bunch of elbow grease. A little Maas or Flitz polish with a clean cotton cloth would help as well for any rust that is stubborn. I'm always careful with Maas and Flitz metal polish. If you use it too many times, either one of them will take the plating off the razor. Maas and Flitz are much more mild than other abrasive metal polishes, but you still need to be careful. I only polish a razor enough to make it shine and then stop. You don't want to overdo it because beyond that you are just removing plating. I've also used Turtle Wax Chrome polish with no problems, but Maas and Flitz work better for me to really bring out the shine.
