Is RAD terminal?

Within the last month I've bought two straight razors, a ball-end Tech, a Super-Adjustable, an Ever-Ready 1924, and two flair-tip Super Speeds! It was all I could do to keep myself from buying a Tuckaway last night. Will this ever stop? Will getting that Bostonian I've been eying cure my madness, or am I doomed to forever wander the earth in search of "just one more razor"?

Well, if it's not terminal it certainly can be costly. However, there are worse ways to spend you money. If you are enjoying it then it's worth the cost.

Per your "Is RAD Terminal" Question...

Only to your wallet, checking account, savings account, 401K, stocks and bonds, inheritance, your marriage (if you have made the leap),etc.:w00t::w00t:

Have fun while they (sources of income) last because once they're gone, you'll be Jonesin' like a heroin addict on a desert island.

Is that all? :confused1

C'mon man!! You're just not trying hard enough!!

Thankfully, there are only so many razors in the world...so technically...

...hmm. Interesting.

Will the Bostonian cure your madness? That's easy: nope.

I too was nearly mortally afflicted by RAD. Luckily, mine was the milder "have to have one of everything to try & use" as opposed to the hideous and terminal "must have two of everything, one to use, one to display" variety. (There's no hope for those guys.)

Anyway - here's a test to see how bad you got it: if after you get your Bostonian you find yourself lusting for a Richwood, a New Standard, and one in gold, one in silver, you got it pretty bad. When you get your Tuckaway - if you want one of each variety - and there are a few... - you got it pretty bad.

So - two years into this madness, I'm chasing one "must have" razor - a deluxe Big Boy. (Of course, I won't turn my back on "opposites" to razors I already have: a gold pocket Empire, a silver pocket Floral, etc....) But I'm happy with shaver grade razors - my Toggle and the Bulldog and the aluminum 58 are not collector's pieces - but they are good shavers & I don't have to have better (and hugely more expensive) ones.

If one example of the otherwise identical razors is enough... you may survive. If you don't have a display case, or plans to display your collection - you may survive...

...survive to move onto SBAD, SSAD, ASAD, edTAD, SCAD... and square all of those for the "vintage-ADs." (I got those.)

It's a blast, isn't it????

Well, I haven't bought a new razor for a month, and don't have any purchases planned. Of course, I already do have 65 of them, not counting cartridge razors.

One way to lessen the internal conflict that RAD can produce from time to time is to sell duplicates and razors that don't work for you. That not only makes space for new razors, but generates a little cash to pay for their replacements.

I think it's time for you to move on to the shaving soap and creme ADs. Denying yourself the amazing experience of Proraso creme, just because your Col. Conk Bay Rum soap is good enough, is just plain foolishness! Come on man, get with the program! You've tried my Proraso and Kiss My Face; just think of all the creamy goodness you are missing out on!
Also, you still don't have a cool travel razor, yet. You know you want one...

Thanks Rob, but that doesn't much help my problem. Last I checked SCAD wasn't a cure for RAD.

It is most def. terminal  Atleast for me it is. In the past month I have aquired a Bostonian, New Standard set, Big Fellow, Old Type in box, Milord, #21, another slim, 3 vintage brushes and some soaps :blushing: (I know I am missing some too). I always tell myself no more razors and then I end up with about 5 - 10 new ones every two weeks.

I don't think its terminal, at least in my case after getting over a dozen different razors it tended to settle down. I've kept what I liked, sold what I didn't, and now I'm very happy with what's left. I have no desire for any more razors, but I do fear that RAD is always lurking and ready to pounce. :w00t: :001_rolle
