Is my Schick adjustable broken?

I got a Schick adjustable off the bay yesterday and gave it a shot this morning. I gave it the maiden voyage this morning and I don't think I'm doing it right. I love my G-model, so I though it would be about the same set on 4. I slid the lever on the underside down, move the adjuster to 4 (I played with it for a minute and it moves up and down when I move knob) and moved the lever back up. I made my first WTG pass and it didn't take off any hair at all. I tried it again and it did the same thing. I moved the lever on the underside down again and opened it all the way open, moved the lever back, and tried it again. Same results. It took off my shaving soap and nothing else. I moved the lever down, dialed it down to 1, and made a pass with the lever still down. It was FAR too aggressive.

I'm kinda stumped. With the lever on the underside down (away from the head) the safety bar moves up and down when I move the knob, but when I move the lever back up, the safety bar is just too close. Is it broken? Am I just using it wrong?

Hmmm what model do you have? I thought the only adjustable's were the M series. Mine only has a knob on top - no lever to adjust on the underside, the knob goes from 1 - 8.

Any chance of a photo?

The hydro magic has a lever on the underside to loosen the head for easier cleaning, but I don't think it's an adjustable.

OK, I did some digging. You have the "Protector" model. This Injector has a switch under head that when flipped up will position the safety bar to protect the blade from accidental contact. So if you want to use it to shave, it needs to be in the other position.

I have an adjustable protector model. The lever is pushed up toward the head for travel and safety. It's nigh impossible to cut anything when it's engaged. Push it away from the head toward the base of the handle and everything operates should work fine.

Thanks for the quick replies. I've never heard about the protector model. I also read on here that the blade might have scraped across the guide and dulled it because it wasn't very pleasant, even on the 1 setting. I'll load a new blade and give it a shot tomorrow.

Here is some info from the package mine came in. $image.jpg$image.jpg

Haven't seen too many of these protector models. I have an M-1, and an M-2 that I really enjoy using daily, and between uses I store them in their red plastic cases.

Mine is an M25 and once I figured out the correct angle, it's much better. I get a great shave on 7, but it itches for a while so I turned it back down to 5. Love it.

I keep the M-1 on 4, and the M-2 on 3. It's amazing how they are the same type of razor yet to shave the same they each require a different setting.
