Is Merkur the 21st Century Gillette DE?

The Futur is a terrific razor, I enjoy mine a great deal.

However, I find the fit'n'finish much higher on the EJ/Mühle razors today. I think they'll be very sought after in 100 years.

Seeing that you're pretty close to LA, you should pay a visit to Oh!U Beauty in Glendale. They carry EJ razors and plenty of other shaving goodies.

I will have to visit it sometime. thank you!

I intend to pass on my Merkur to my oldest son when the time comes. That's why I'm thinking of buying that $50 dollar lather bowl they have. It would make a nice heirloom.

Definitely.

Nothing better expresses the spirit of the 21st Century (at least so far) than Merkur. Just compare:

Once: lightness and whimsy; Now: clodhopping crudeness
Once: refinement and taste; Now: mass vulgarity
Once: precious rhodium; Now: cheap chrome

One is a dancing magic wand, the other a mini-meat-axe.

Merkur rules!

I was there last week and there were no razors other than vintage ones. But now they have the entire TOBS and Pinuad-Clubman collections.

Nope. Gillettes were better made. I do however, like the design of the slant head from a functional perspective. Gets the job done, just wish they were made a little better.

I use a Futur for my daily shaving. I started with a Fat Boy.
I'm pretty much on the fence here. I like the weight of the Futur, but I get shaves just as good from the Fat Boy.
I have no doubt that the Futur will last a lifetime, but my Fat Boy's a '58 and it's going strong.
Everyone's head over heels around here for the EJ89L. I'm going to pick one up and see what the hype is all about.
I shall report back.
