Is Mach 3 being discontinued?

Hey all - new here.

So very curious, is Mach 3 being discontinued or is Gillette pushing us towards the Fusion? My entire shaving life (10-11 years) I have been a Mach 3 believer and have never used anything but Mach 3, what I believed to be the best razor known to man. Well ~6 months ago it became very difficult to find replacements, the big box retailers had pretty much nothing but the most expensive packs (18 packs I think, not sure since I dont buy them) and for the life of me I could not find the 8 packs. I cannot justify dropping $30+ for a pack of razors so I switched to the Mach 3 disposable which were just as good as the regular but about 90% as good of a shave, they were budget for a reason.

Anyways I finally found an 8 pack after MONTHS! Well it is really a 7 pack with a Fusion Proglide modified to fit the Mach 3 handle, along with a $2 off coupon for a Fusion handle. I must say the Fusion Pro-Glide is a FANTASTIC, ok FABULOUS shave vs the Mach 3, however I am curious is Mach 3 being shut down? Mach 3 is a fantastic shave and it really should stick around, personally I am going to transition to Fusion however Mach 3 has a following I really dont think they should alienate.

I love my Mach 3 due to how much time I spent using it, however my first use of the Fusion Pro-Glide I was hooked! The precision razor on the end just sealed the deal for me, I have always had issues with the hairs just under my nostril and the Fusion took care of them no problem!

Welcome to Badger...you do know your 1 st post is about a disposable razor and this is a Traditional Wet Shave site.............try a vintage Gillette or modern razor, you will be hooked too

Seems like the Mach 3 is being wound down. I said that to my other half when we tried to find the 8 pack, the smaller refill packs disappeared for awhile then showed back up with a Fusion promo in them. Gillette seems to be moving the Mach 3 customers to Fusion, I tried a Quattro once and hated it vs my tried and true Mach 3 so I was VERY skeptical on the 5 blade Gillette Fusion, however the promo blade they gave me was the Pro-Glide, and it was FANTASTIC to say the least!

Welcome to B&B. Whatever works for you. Good luck with your m3/fusion hunt. Just to give you some idea, did you know for what you buy / spend in carts ($35 for a ten pack) is the equivalent of enough blades for the traditional wet shaver to last the WHOLE YEAR :) Try old school shaving, you might like it. Cool razors too ;)

Welcome to B&B!

Here locally, I've noticed a surge in Mach 3 advertising and rock-bottom pricing on the razors and cartridges. Looks like they are dumping the stock for the next big that'll probably take care of the hair inside the nostrils as well.

They'll sell the cartridges for years to come. The handles on the other hand they seem to only keep 2 models in production. So I figure next time they put out a new handle design, we'll see the Mach 3 start to phase out.

+1 Sir In this place all of us are engaged a very entertaining and pleasurable sport @#!%$^%%$^ ( In simple language it is called "Wet Shaving in the traditional way" ) :001_tt2:

Welcome to B&B.

Welcome to B&B. I would Google your query, as this is traditional shaving site, and very few people on here use or care about the multibladed gizmo's.

Did you know that the single blade on the back of a fusion cartridge is very much like a DE or SE razor blade?

Good luck with the price hunting! Whatever works for you :)

um.... this is a 'wet shaving' website, and lots of us use carts at least part of the time.
While that is fair enough, I wouldn't go on a site that mainly discusses traditional shaving methods to find out if a new Gillette product is being discontinued. Was mainly trying to help as Google would most likely give a better answer.

Double on that. I use March 3s on the weekend or when I'm in a 'rush' and I'd certainly like to know if they're being discontinued. And, frankly, the purpose of a forum is to encourage discussion and answer questions, even a topic isn't necessarily 100% in line with the practices of most of its members. If everyone simply googled answers instead of asking questions on forums, this would be a very boring place indeed.

Welcome to B&B, pezzy! Hang around here long enough and you will wind up with a vintage razor in your hand, and a much better shave on your face!!

Like Chris said, many here use carts at least part of the time. While they are not inherently evil, they do leave a lot to be desired. For many of us, the cost of cartridge shaving along with the irritation that comes from bad habits and poor prep lead us to seek a more pleasurable and less expensive way of removing facial hair.

Classic wetshaving involves better methods of preparation, generally using brushed lather, and adopting a "no pressure" approach to the shave itself. Better techniques and a good lather go a long way toward producing a better result. Add in a vintage (or vintage-style) double-edge, single-edge, or straight razor and you have the added benefit of huge cost savings over the cost of cartridge shaving. I also find my daily shave to be a more relaxing and enjoyable experience that I actually look forward to, instead of just being a chore to rush through.

Mach III carts used to cost me over four dollars each (in a four-pack) at my local grocery store. My favorite DE blade costs me exactly twenty cents each in a five-pack - quite a savings! (I'm saving $15 a month!)

Check out Mantic59 on YouTube - he has made some outstanding wetshaving videos that are informative as well as entertaining. Better shaves are only a moment away!
