What's new

Is it just me or do they . . .

I got some Blue Birds today and is it just me or is the packaging just like Derby's?

Are they made by Derby? If not who makes them and where? How do they shave? (I know, I know, in a razor!)

inquiring minds want to know . . .

There's a thread around here somewhere....

But, the upshot is that it's a very confused situation. Some claim they work just like Derby's other not. Our " inside contacts" over there are also divided. One says there are a special order/rebranded Derby, another one says that Derby has nothing to do with them.

I fall into the "they're different" camp. Even though it's quite possible they are made by same the manufacturer, I find the Blue Birds sharper than the Derby Extra blade and just as smooth. Considering the price difference (almost 30% more) I can imagine the specifications may more stringent for the Blue Birds. Unfortunately, it's doubtful that we'll get clarity anytime soon but until then I will continue to use Blue Birds as I think highly of them.

Having used both in short succession, I'll say that the Bluebirds are much sharper blades, but, while they purportedly have several coats of ceramic, they aren't mucn (if any) smoother than the Derbies. I think they feel almost identical.
