Is it worth it? YES! I am a big fan of Limes Skin Food. It smells great leaves my face feeling buttery and nice and well conditioned. I've used a few others but this one is the one I like the most. Of course, everyones skin is different and it may not be for everyone. I first tried it in a 15ml sampler that lasted quite a while.
Meh. It depends on what you're looking for in an aftershave. The Skin Food is a good "sealant" so to speak, and is best layered after you've applied other aftershave splashes or balms. It provides good protection from the elements and does provide some moisturization. Some men love it as a sole aftershave product; I feel there's much better out there, especially for the money.
The best way to find out would be to order a sample pack from Trumper. They usually include a few bottles of skinfood in it. I think the product is good but not good enough to replace my migthy Proraso white!
+1 on the sample kit. I HIGHLY recommend that you give skin food a try before you commit to a full priced bottle. It's a high-content glycerin product...so, it seals in moisture and protects the skin, but it doesn't necessarily absorb into the skin. If you have normal/oily skin and/or you live in a humid or warm environment, it may not be for you.
Some gentlemen like to mix glycerin aftershaves with their favorite splashes. This can work well in some respects, providing a nice balance between splash and sealant.
IMO this stuff really comes into its own in freezing, blustery-cold conditions when your skin needs protection. In hot, humid summer months, I might as well smear Crisco on my face. Well, not quite, but you get the basic picture.
+2 on the sample kit. I really like skin food and a little does indeed go a very long way. Personally Sandalwood and Limes are my favorite (in that order).
I despise skin food. The name itself is a grave misdirection, because a little glycerin is not to be considered as actual nutrition for your skin (and I cannot stress enough that nothing you put on your skin can be called food, because your skin is not being nourished by lotions and balms but by the nutrition flowing through your blood vessels). Of all the balms I've tried skin food is the least moisturizing, it does absolutely nothing good for my skin. As a preshave it is useless as well, though I have not noticed any improvements by anything I've put on my skin before shaving so far.
