Is Dooney Roomed?

After reading Robert's informative and earth shaking post I was left wondering, does this mean lights out for this recently resurrected "old" name in brushes? Did the (overly) numerous brush grades lead to consumer confusion? A financial peccadillo? What do you, the brush buying (or talking about buying:001_tongu ) public think? Will this mean a rush on Simpson's brushes? Will Lee be traveling the US with a landbarge-load of PJ2's to satisfy the pent-up desire for badger? Will ClassicShaving have a fire sale on the nec plus ultra of nail brushes? Or should we contemplate buying BEAVER?:001_wub:
This news is certainly fraught with possibility!

Certainly doesn't look good. It was a curious business model to be sure for a resurrected brand - way too many options IM(never humble)O. Maybe they will become collectors items. Or, better yet, CAR can promote them as the next best brush for method shaving.

Every time I looked at Rooneys I was overwhelmed with the options and no explanation of what any of the grades meant. No parallels at all with the other manufacturers so it was tough to compare apples to apples. I guess I am not surprised.

I guess the real question is...Where's the clearance sale?!
That's what I was thinking.

Ah, now that's a true AD person. Seeking advantage in a company's misfortunes.

I'll take two brushes please.

I guess that I, thus far, haven't purchased any of the later Rooney incarnations but I do have several of the older 'real' Rooneys. Rooney once labeled their brushes simply as 'best' or 'super' and 'pure' as well. Of course they also made some crappier brushes often found in comparatively cheaper gift sets. I wouldn't even hazard a guess as to the future of Rooney and this posting may simply be a supplier/distributor issue and no more. I'd still purchase a newer Rooney 'finest' if the opportunity of a used one happens to turn up.

Here's some images of the really superb brushes Rooney once made that are now in my stack.

Those are beautiful brushes, Steve.
For everyone else... take a deep breath. Let's wait and see what Robert finds out. I am doubting that Rooney is closing the doors. Their brushes are well-made and IMO, a real bargain even at current prices.

Not at TGS!

We actually sold quite a few and really liked these brushes, but you needed to have one in your hand to appreciate the quality of the product or compare them with other brands. Our remaining stock will quietly be sold off online and instore, unless of course I can find another supplier or buy direct.

Regards, Robert

I purchased a Roone style 3 small a month or so ago and it is a very nice brush. It has a dense knot and the softest tips of any brush I own. I would rank it in the top 3 brushes I own! (at least in the small brush category)

Yeah, but can it Boogie Woogie?:001_tt2:

Rooneys have flat tops (English style) whereas Shavemacs are rounded (German/French style). I prefer English brushes like Simpson, Kent and Rooney (and non-silvertip Savile Rows) because I like their performance better. In other words, I can control where the lather goes better. That's just me. Your mileage may vary...

To each their own.... I have used 5-6 Rooneys of all grades, and none of them have done a thing for me. The one I like most is a prototype with a Plisson style "bulb" shaped knot of hair - but personally I thought the build quality was medeocre at best.

YMMV
