Is Arko truly superior to Williams?

No one wanted Williams a couple years ago, now that it is discontinued (or is it), everyone wants it again.

Yes, I did.

Based on my sole puck of Arko (in the plastic dish) I've found them to be similar and stuck with Williams as it was available from my local grocer for 99 cents a puck (and luckily bought an extra dozen this past December). Arko puck was made in 2016 so hardly any smell. Have a dozen Arko sticks inbound so may adjust my opinion once those arrive. I love the Williams aroma so I'm guessing the same will be true for the Arko sticks.

Do have to agree with Samasourus that Arko now has the edge because it is still in production. :001_smile

For many years (pre-internet) all that was available in my area was Williams. Today's soaps and creams are so much better, IMO including Arko, that I don’t care if I ever use Williams again. 😬

I never had trouble lathering Williams. It just takes a little more effort than some of the better soaps. Arko always lathers fast, but Williams was carried by my local supermarket. They're pretty even in my book with a nod going to Arko just because of the speed.

I used nothing but Williams for years. I always liked the scent. I like Arko as well and the scent smooths out over time. I never had an issue lathering Williams but I would agree Arko lathers easier. What makes them both special to me is their low price. There are certainly better soaps out there but they typically cost more.

Isn't the market telling us now which is superior? Alternative perspective to my earlier post above is that based on the current market value of these respective soaps. Williams is almost ten times better than Arko since it's now selling for upwards of $15 per puck on Amazon and Ebay while we can purchase Arko for a price as low as $1.50 per stick in bulk. 🤣

Price is not the same as value. For the price of one puck of Williams, you can buy 12 sticks of ARKO. ARKO would only have to go up about 8% to make the same profit as a puck of Williams doubling. However, that is still a casino approach. The value is approximately the same number of shaves from each unit. In other words, the value of a puck of Williams equals the value of a stick of ARKO. Williams is just dramatically overpriced.

Hi GaryTha, A serious response to what is intended as a humorous post. See my first post (#24) on this thread, from a user experience perspective I see the two soaps as very similar "old school" shaving soaps both in performance and in original price points.

It is funny though, now that Williams is discontinued, it's price has jumped by an order of magnitude.

Arko is superior for lathering imo..however, it smells like a urinal puck..so Williams for its scent or lack thereof.

I actually grated an arko sticks into a better smelling glycerine based soap and it worked out well..

Having never tried either of these soaps, this is a mystery of the universe that I will likely never solve. I’m good with that and see no reason to explore the matter any further.

If everyone got a stick of La Toja there wouldn’t even be a discussion. Ask @Marco
I had three in the ol' "Zon" cart that DID NOT get past my lovely War Department.... She questioned the expenditure, and I did not supply an acceptable response/excuse...so she took it out of the cart. Now I'll bet it's doubled in price!

That woman is gonna have me bein' a millionaire in my casket doggone it! I agree with her in principle on storing up riches besides here on planet earth, but I'm getting tired of darning socks and patching my whitey tighties and livin' off hamburger helper without the hamburger!

I got it rough I tell ya!
