i don't know about ones bud that multi colored one is way out there for me. i'd rather go with a plain one, preferably made out of cotton.

I think a flat cap, as we call them in Britain, goes with almost any outfit. Over here they are a classless head gear, worn by anyone and everyone from blue collar workers to the Royals. I have several, being follically challenged and I never go out without one in my pocket, unless I'm wearing one of my fedoras or trilbys.

Go for it.

Nooooooooooo!

Seriously though, I've just started wearing one for a little warmth during the winter and it took a bit of adjusting to - not because it didn't look ok, but because folks weren't used to seeing me in a hat.

I prefer a more modern style along the lines of what Kangol puts out - just a little sleeker and less old man like (at least to me). Also, the pattern you pick makes a huge difference - a solid or more subtle pattern is also a little easier to pull off/contemporary to me.

Also take a look at more fuller newsboy caps, but you're a skinny fella so I would suggest ivy/driving cap.

two good sites with lots of options, many made in ireland/italy are:

Then there is the Donnegal style direct from ireland (more flat, streamlined tops)

Any style will go well with jeans t-shirt, and I would suggest making sure hat color will not clash with your main jacket, ie apparently brown hats and grey jackets are not the best fit.

Being bald, I have to keep my noggin warm...so I went with ivy caps and ascots...very comfortable and stylish. You can pick one up for under $20 and give it a try...I think you will enjoy wearing them. Check out villagehatshop.com

I've got one of these Barbour caps that looks really nice. I wore it over Christmas, it matches well with khakis or jeans, and looks really smashing with my Barbour jacket.
