The Slim at 8 is not aggressive at all. There are far more aggressive razors. My vote is too that milder razors are better for beginners.
Is a more aggressive razor better for a beginner?

I started with a Parker 91R. I would have been better served listening to the conventional wisdom on the site at the time which was...buy a Tech. It's still my go-to razor along with my Wilkinson Sword Classic (black plastic). Both are gentle razors that reward good technique and don't punish mistakes too severely.
