Well, if the knot costs ,say, $25.00, then that's obviously 25%, which seems high. OTOH, To keep it from getting damaged care should be taken in the packaging. Might add to the cost. P.O. cost should be only half of what you're stating.
The problem with charges like this is that they cover shipping AND handling ... there is an overhead cost involved in packaging an item before it is put out for UPS or FedEx or whoever does the actual delivery to your door.
The cost of the actual product has no bearing on the amount of Shipping and Handling, these are separate items.
Even though the postage on the package might only read $1.95, the rest of the cost is to pay someone to keep track of inventory, select the proper item from the shelf, buy the box and wrapping material, put it in a box, address it, QA to make sure everything is proper, etc.
And the vendor is entitled to make a small profit on these tasks. If they didn't, we wouldn't have so many online retailers to choose from when we need to feed our ADs.
Yeah it would be nice if they used a small flat rate box , but you pay almost six bucks for it to arrive in a bubble mailer and smashed flat. I have never had a problem with them not returning to shape yet either.
If it were $5.95 per knot regardless of quantity, that'd be one thing. The vendor I bought from charged only a buck more to ship a second knot, which seemed reasonable, so I bought two.
