Irritation!

I have a question that I cannot seem to find the answer to. I currently have irritation/in grown hairs on my neck area, however I am clueless to either let them heal and not shave ( D: ) until they do, or shave with the irritation, and let it heal "violently" in a way. Anyone have any insight to this?

When I used to get ingrowns I wouldn't shave for a couple of days. After those days (2/3 days) I shaved anyway, because it wouldn't feel uncomfortable any more. Irritation would still be there though, so than I would skip an other day of shaving and so on.
I would suggest that you apply some Witch Hazel and/or some aloe vera gel on the affected area.
I hope this helps and good luck.

Whenever I had irritation - I would be forced to take some time off...well - no more....with SMN - there is no such thing as irritation....
Santa Maria Novella = no irritation !!!

A bit +1 on the witch hazel. I've used the cheap stuff from the drug store when I would get irritation, and it really helps. I've never used aloe vera gel on my face after shaving, but I'm sure it would feel good though. I've used aloe on sunburns and whatnot, it feels great. Good luck!

Don't listen to Nick, Vulcanus. Using distilled Witch Hazel is what gave him Toxic Bumps in the first place.

EDIT: With the name change, my joke makes absolutely no sense.

I have had a few new clients that have come in with this very same issue. I recommend trimming your hair down to a length that makes the bumps visible, but not too obvious (1A or 1 1/2 "metal" guard). Then apply 3-in-1 post shave by Lab Series to the area twice a day (morning and night). You should see results shortly (within a week). Wait 3-4 weeks before cutting you hair again. Cut to the same length as mentioned, and continue to apply the 3-in-1, untill all gone.

I recommend this product over any other ingrown hair product, simply because, it has a moisturizing component that will keep the area (where it's applied) from looking dry. Give it a try...here is a post about it.

I also recommend trying some Witch Hazel. I use it after every shave and it really helps clear up any redness or irritation on my neck.

I've been using Witch Hazel now and it is a great product! Now should I continue to use it along with a styptic pencil, or one or the other?

You could use the WH every day after a shave and keep the styptic pencil for when you get a cut. I do alum block and WH, might be overkill but find it doesn't hurt so far, still experimenting

I had the same problem with my neck area and lower jaw. I stopped shaving all together for about four days then went to every other day for about a week, only doing no more than two passes per shave. I also started using the c.o. big witch hazel and it has really improved my skin and post shave redness. Good Luck.
