Irisch Moos

I get the impression that Irisch Moos is very similar to Tabac. Are they related in some way?

I've read so much about Tabac that it sounds like a product I'd really like but I don't like the name... it reminds me of Tabaco and as strange as it might sound, I'm an ex-smoker and the name bothers me enough that I wouldn't buy it.

So if Irisch Moos is Tabac by another name, I'd take it. Secondly, anyone know a North American vendor (preferably Canadian) who carries it?

No they are not the same product. The company that makes Tabac bought Irisch Moos so in that respect they are related. But the scents are completely different. Tabac has a floral scent while Irisch Moos smells like Irish Spring soap to me. Irisch Moos is also a shave stick which is applied to your face then whipped into a lather with your brush.
Being an ex smoker myself, Tabac doesn't smell like leaf tobacco, my understanding is that they use the flower to give it it's signature scent. Try it you might like it. Or not. Many will buy it from you if you don't.

I have some Irisch Moos coming in the next week or two. I am a huge fan of Tabac so I will post my impression after trying it out. I have found it very hard to come by. My office manager's son is a tennis coach who has a student coming over from Germany who brought me some Irisch Moos after I asked her to ask her son to ask his student to bring some over from Germany. Yeah, hard to come by I must say.

Ray, it's not the scent that I'm so worried about.. it's just the name. I had a really hard time quitting smoking.. took me years of trying. Finally was able to but to do so I basically developed a very strong hatred for tobacco.. so just seeing that name ... couldn't do it. The MOOS sounds good though but I have no idea where I'll find it.

I'm basically looking for a good stick for travel that lathers well and a couple of extra soaps. I think I'm alergic to lanoline so the wool fats are probably out.

My new favorite is IM, followed by Tabac... such a nice scent! And the lather is dreeaaaaamyy.

The performance of IM is the same as tabac. I like the scent better than tabac personally. IM has a green, fresh smell. not as musky as tabac. I think old people when I smell tabac, not with IM.

Irisch Moos and a great performer and in a green container and nothing to remind you of tobacco. Go for it!!!

As long as you like (or don't mind) the stench smell of Irish Spring soap, you'll be ok w/this stuff. The lather is great but I couldn't take the scent. Used it once & PIF'd it away.

The only place that I've been able to find it as a vendor is superlather.com and they don't seem to have a steady supply. Send them an email and ask to be put on the "list" for when it comes in.

Though the ingredients are not a 100% match, IM seems to contain more water for example, performance is the same or very close. It comes in the identical container that holds the Tabac stick but is not available (yet?) as a puck in the glass container (and not ceramic as a lot of guys seem to think).

Well, it's certainly different than Tabac. "Better," however, is a highly subjective term. And my subjectivity can beat up your subjectivity with one arm tied behind its back (and a clothespin on its nose).

Same perfomance as tabac but different scent, I prefer the scent of Moss instead of Tabac that is a bit strong for me
