Interviews

A friend and I are interviewing for a job (there are two positions open) anyway he just got out and said the guy is a real piece of work. My interview isn't until later today...any advice from you guys on how to handle the more intense interviews?

And at any rate...wish me luck please!

Yeah, you're friend would be a good place to start. As for the interview itself, just be relaxed and be yourself. Don't lie or stretch the truth. Be honest and up front, I'm sure the interviewer isn't trying to trip you up.

It's a legal position.

I've practically interrogated my friend...I'm not sure he has much more to offer. I wasn't expecting it to be a stress interview type situation...but being aware of this means half the battle is over now.

Thanks for the luck guys!

Two Words:

Staring contest.

Nah, just kidding, but don't be afraid to pause and think of your answers before blurting them out.

Let me guess, the guy's a litigator/trial lawyer, right? This is going to sound like glib advice, but it's not: just don't let him rattle you. Look him straight in the eye, calmly answer his questions, and ignore any extraneous antics. He's either (a) just an a-hole, in which case you just have to deal with it, or (b) trying to see how interviewees will hold up under the stress of the position. Show him you can.

Another bit of advice that I've been told numerous times is sit up proper and don't slouch in your chair and a good solid handshake sets most interviews on a good start.

Yeah, it's a litigation position. I'm not sure why I'm nervous...I want to be a litigator and I know what I can be like, so I should be able to handle him lol.

Thanks for everything guys...I'll let you know how it goes.

Things went very well. They called me about 45 minutes after the interview and set up an appointment for a 2nd interview.

The interviewer that I was nervous about ended up attending the same undergrad that I had attened and we were somewhat familiar with each other. He was a really nice guy during my interview lol.

But thank you guys, it's nice being able come here and get the wisdom of people much more experienced than myself.

You could always answer his questions with a question of your's. Then you'll see what kind of stuff he is made of.

Tutti Frutti, Cheers:mad3:

One bit of advice: leave your can of Old Milwaukee out in the car. Chances are, he won't have a coaster on his desk for you to use.

Oh yeah, and wear the good set of flip-flops, not the ones the dog chewed on.

JK, good luck! :thumbup1:

Be honest. It isn't worth lying
Use STAR statements. Always talk about a Situation you were involved with. The Task you undertook. The Action you did. And a Result of you actions.

Good luck.

Always be nice to receptionist/secretary/assistants. The interviewers will almost always go and ask them about the person they just interviewed.

A firm handshake and looking people in the eye go a long way too. Good luck on the second interview!
