Interviewing for job in South Florida

I am interviewing for a job in South Florida and I have some questions:

Background: I'm interviewing for a technologist position at a medical clinic.

Can I safely assume that a conservative shirt, tie and midnight blue suit are normal for interviews, despite the warm weather? I rarely see them here.

"TV fold" pocket square, or just leave that at home?

Your help is appreciated B&B!

Just my humble 2¢ .. At one point in my career I was involved in a tremendous amount of interviewing & recruiting, for professional positions, both with internal candidates & outsiders. Nobody ever missed a job because they overdressed. On the other hand, I recall plenty that lost out because their dress or grooming projected the opposite, despite otherwise positive interviews. This is not just my bent, these interviews were conducted by several people who would meet afterwards & consense on the candidates.

Good luck!

I think in your climate, a tan suit would be appropriate. I recall seeing gents in linen and cotton suits in Miami. The Cuban gents wore their guyaberas.

Yes....what you have proposed is fine. I interview for law enforcement all the time and wear Khaki Pants with a Blue Dress Shirt, and a Black Sport Coat with Yellow Tie. As long as you have a coat of some sort, you are good to go!

It's hotter than unholy HE-Double Hockey Sticks down here right now, so be ready to sweat. =)

I live in Florida (St. Petersburg now and previously in Palm Beach County). What you propose is appropriate.

A lot depends on the City you are talking about. Palm Beach and Tampa would be more conservative in attire. In some companies business casual is the norm in others suits and ties are. However, in any locale dressing as you propose would be appropriate.

I wore a midnight blue suit, black and silver striped tie and a just-barely-blue shirt. I didn't have a pocket square because I couldn't get mine to cooperate in terms of folding :mad3:

Black dress shoes and black socks.

Oh and I got the job!

Thanks for your input gents!

Congratulations on getting the job. Next time you wear the suit, you may want to consider dark blue socks rather than black ones. Just my 2 cents.

At the company in which I currently work, the norm for this time of year is shorts, tank top, and sandals, although I dress business casual as I am uncomfortable with business slovenly. I interviewed in a suit much like you describe. The two people who interviewed me were in jeans (winter dress).

The hiring manager was dressed BC and was surprised that I was dressed up. After I sat down, he said to me that I was hired, but still wanted to go over some details of the job.

If the work culture is very relaxed, I would still recommend that you dress up for the interview.

Again, thanks for the advice and support!
