What's new

Interesting news piece:

What is with this current trend of devising poorly worded 1500 page bills that seemingly give all the power in the world to the people that absolutely do not need it? All it does is give the other side cannon fodder. Look at that recently passed tobacco bill, or the still to pass PACT act. Those two bills alone pretty much give one person control of the entire E Commerce and tobacco industries. Yet they're so vague and stupidly written that twenty people reading them will walk away with twenty different interpretations of what was actually proposed.

This story really blew my mind. The gist of it is that compensation of government employees is *growing* while, at the same time, that of the private sector is *falling*. Now, I haven't personally verified the figures, but the statement: the average government compensation/employee is roughly TWICE that of the average for the private sector.

My 85yr old mom just received a letter informing her that her social security payment will not increase for the next two years. Are government salaries frozen, too?

Actually, my interest in politics is fairly recent. Its become impossible to avoid. In my life, discussion of politics has always been something to be avoided. It finally dawned on me that there seems to be an almost-universal feeling of powerlessness among citizens, who tend to live their own lives and let the government handle the big issues. It doesn't take much effort to see what an awful job they do!
