Morning all,
I was thinking that a lot of our opinions about the blades we use are based upon the words of others. Maybe that shave with the Dorco wouldn't be so horrible if we didn't know it was a Dorco we were shaving with.
So what i'm suggesting is, dig through your assortment and find the worst blade you have. Then find the best blade. Grab a few in the middle and after you come up with about 5 or so blades (especially ones with distinct characteristics, pulling, tugging, smooth etc.) put them in a box and have someone else (you trust hopefully) load them for you. That way you wouldn't know what you were shaving with. (Treet Blacks wouldn't work obviously.) Record your results and have your blade loader keep record of what was used each time. Important! Do not ask which blade was used after you are done with each one. Deductive reasoning will help you figure out what blade you didn't shave with. This way you will never know what blade you are using if you look at all of the records at the end.
I also suggest using your favorite razor for consistency throughout the whole experiment. At the end of the test, compare your notes against what blade was used. I'd bet a lot of you guys would be surprised. I've tried this once before and found out my worst blade was still my worst blade. Cut me up like a Ginsu Knife.
