Ink Review: Parker Quink Blue-Black

$2013-03-10 12.18.11.jpg

hmmm, I have a bottle of the black, it was the only thing my local Staples has in stock. I've heard the Quink is not so bad. I'm saving it until I get my Parker '46 back from resto. Probably won't use any other ink in it.

Thanks Bil, Quink does come in Blue, Blue-Black, and Black... its my go to ink for work as its easily replaced, and never lets me down. Although the vintage Quink is even better

Another good review for a great ink! I use Quink regularly, it is an evenly flowing, safe product I can use with confidence.

I did wonder if they had other flavors. Nice review, btw

They used to make beautiful red and green inks which were sadly discontinued about 7 years ago.

I'm a little more radical than that with my water resistance tests. Write on a test page, leave a few minutes, then put it in the sink and run the water on it full, finally put the sheet on a paper towel, and see if it spreads while it's drying. It's just nice to know the worst case scenario. As I recall, the blue black Quink leaves traces of itself that may still be legible, although it's not really water resistant.

Apart from that, it's just a nice enough color, and an ink that hasn't caused any problems where I've tried it.

Ive seen them on the bay in some buy it nows, but man the shipping is always more then i would pay for the entire bottle lol last i looked i think it was 30 bucks to ship a 15 dollar bottle of ink. I like quink, but not that much

Quink red / green (and various others) are still available on Amazon for less than £5 a bottle. Also available in cartridges.

Manufacturer's inks like Waterman, Parker Quink, Sheaffer, Montblanc, etc. are something I think everyone should atleast try. They're almost always safe inks that won't cause any pen maintenance nightmares. They flow very well, are often even suitable to use on otherwise non-FP friendly paper (depending on the nib) and are easy to clean out of a pen. Waterman vintage (ca. 1930) blue-black and Florida Blue are some of my favorites from this category.

You can't go wrong with any of them, really...

I bought a bottle of parker quink Black at my local Staples, And it works well for me.
The only problem I Had Was when I cracked the lid for it.
but A kindly B&B member sent me an empty bottle to pour the ink in, So I'm back in Business.
By the way, what do you do if you have trouble opening a bottle of ink?

Run the gambit of home solutions that help open pickle jars... tap lightly on counter... use a damp cloth(not the wifes face one) heat from a hair drier then make sure when you do get it off clean threads on bottle as well as cap. Dried ink can make some bottles nasty to open, my dip stuff gets it more then my FP inks do though

I don't know if it is just my eyes and my lighting or just my bottle but I love how the supersaturated line get a metallic bronze border to them with the Quink Blue-Black. I thought I was imagining it earlier but I see it on another letter I just wrote. Only on the super dark and saturated parts. Not the lighter chalky looking bits, the darker blue parts...

Thanks for the pictures, was thinking of the blue-black, but I see that it's way too much on the blue side for me.

It is also, IMO, quite on the teal side, rather than a true blue color. Which was a disappointment to discover after the ex and I had ordered two bottles of the stuff... I was expecting, you know, something like a darkish blue and apparently something about the computer monitor made all samples I'd seen not look teal at all. Montblanc blue-black was much closer to what I'd imagined blue-black to be, and though I've not tried others, I'm sure that would be the same.

Can't speak to the quality as, well, I don't think I even used up a full pen-load of the stuff, but the black Quink is my "standard" ink, so...

Great review, looks like I'll be trying this ink in the future. I see them at my local Staples and just haven't pulled the trigger yet. I've too many inks as it is, lol. Is that even possible?
