What's new

Ink and such

Hey all-

This is my first post in the Nib forum. I want to try out an FP. I don;t want to spend much to start out. I'll probably go with the Pilot Metropolitan or something similar. I have a question about in cartridge types. This is a totally newb qyestion but here goes. Are ink cartridges interchangeable or does each brand needs it's brand of ink etc.? Thanks.

Your Metro will come with a converter to fill from a bottle, or ink samples as well

Upon further review it looks like Pilot has their own system as well, so in this case you may be stuck using only their carts

First, welcome to the Nib!

Lots of fountain pens will use the little "international" cartridges that are kind of a standard, especially with European pens. They are like Waterman long carts but are so short they can be piggybacked in many pens. Tape them together if you don't want the spare rattling around.

Others have proprietary cartridges, here is a list, correct me if I left any out

Sheaffer
Sailor
Pilot/Namiki
Platinum
Parker (will also interchange with Aurora)
Lamy
Cross
