Information about this old Gillette open comb I've found?

Hello all!

I found this Gillette open comb DE for $5 while browsing at a thrift/antique store that was closing down today. It's got a Gillette trademark, and says made in Canada. I've attached some (poor, sorry, camera phone) images to the post.

I'm curious about when the razor is from, and whether there are any non-obvious tricks about cleaning or maintaining it that mightn't be in the maintenance wiki page?

I'm also curious about whether the blades they guy threw in are likely to be usable and of reasonable quality?

Thanks in advance, and I'm sorry if I'm asking something I should've been able to find by searching. I've had a look around, and I'm a little lost.

Cheers,

Welcome to B&B. You have a 1920's Ball end Old type razor made in Canada, without the case it may be hard to tell what model name it is. Your razor has bent teeth which may or may not effect the shave. You cant really fix thee teeth without breaking. Some are lucky enough to fix them without breaking it. You can use a toothbrush and scrubbing bubble to clean the razor. .Here is a link to id the razors you may find d in the future. &B's own member the esteemed Mr. Razor site http://www.mr-razor.com/Rasierer/Old Type/Old Type.htm

Thanks much for the information guys.

The bent teeth don't appear to be a problem, they're not pushed in a vertical sense, so they don't seem to interfere with the blade or shave.

I disinfected the Gillette and had a shave with the razor and blades, using a badger hair brush I picked up and a Prosaro shave soap.

I have a beard, so the shave was primarily neckline, and went quite well. I'm very prone to razor burn and have a little after the shave in one spot, which I think was primarily from pushing slightly when I stroked.

Still very happy! It all went quite well and I'm looking forward to seeing how it all works out long term.

Thank you all again for the information!
